Help me "get" The Grudge...(spoilers)

I think The Grudge is just a bunch of horror set-pieces tied together loosely by the barest strand of plot.
In that, it is identical to 1980s American slasher movies, as I remarked to my best friend after we saw it. Nothing distinguishes it from Friday the 13th Part XIII: Jason Takes Manhattan except better production values.

While I hated this movie I did watch the 'making of' segment on the DVD and they explained that the boy/cat spirit was fused together and became a 'Ju-on' (the original japanese title of this movie). See I thought that sounded pretty cool and it would have been a LOT better if they had just told us about that in the freaking movie itself. I know the cop guy talked around this a bit but a little bit of clear exposition would have gone a long way to helping this crapfest.

Can't wait for the Rin...er Grudge 2! ;)

I will add that Ju-on has two television movies that came before it and a sequel. I have only seen Ju-on 1 and 2 but I didn't care for them really. I have read that the first television movie is widely considered the best of the bunch.

That's pretty much all. I didn't really like the ending, I admit. Endings like that are so common nowadays.

How did it end? I tried to watch this a while back, and was so bored that I turned it off after 45 minutes, but I'm curious.

Ditto -- I actually can't remember it (just saw it on DVD a month ago).

Just that "the boyfriend" went into the house and Gellar went in to save
him and Pullman was there. But can't remember the details.

Bad guys win.

[sblock]SMG burns down the house after the ghosts kill her boyfriend. She wakes up in the hospital, goes down to see her dead boyfriend, learns that they saved the house from the fire, hears a death rattle behind her, turns and the ghost's there.[/sblock]

Meh.

It ends with Geller going back to the house and getting attacked (again) by the blood-covered woman ghost. The ghost is clawing its way over her when Geller spills over a gas can that oen of the other characters had brought to try and burn the house down. The place goes up in flames and it fades to black.

Until it cuts to the cop's partner walking through a hospital corridor with Geller. He says they managed to save the house (OH BOY! GRUDGE 2!!) but fails to mention how Geller is saved. They go into the morgue to identify a body. The nurse has long black hair and turns out to be the ghost woman. It ends with a close up of her bloodshot eye as Geller tries vainly to look scared - or at least interested by this point.
