I plan to release a D20 book some time early next year; so far it is a monster supplement. Only thing is I can't seem to decide on a name for it. I wanted "creature codex" but I believe that’s already a website so this is what I have come up with, choose what option you like the best. Thanks

p.s. if you have a better name then by all means share it with me :-)

My suggestion is that you call it the:

Beast Bible

ohhhh beast bible. sounds good! :-) like it! dont want to offend religious groups with our "satanic" role playing game though! lol! :-D

Well so far its just monsters that i have made and ones from legend and myth of africa, but i orders some books off of amazon.com so hopefully those books about myth will get my creative juces flowing. My newist idea is like this living ink that can be applyed as tattoos. the tattoos then can come alive off the skin and attack. the catch is, most peoples DNA is not compatable with the ink so it mutates them. They can still use the tatto attacks though. dont know if i should make the ink able to attack on its own or if it should be a magical item. what do you think. any one want to hemp me make this creature? i figure it would be best as a template.

Thinking about it though, I couldn't come up with a superior title. You want something that stands out (check); is unique (check); forwards a discussion in itself via courting mild controversy (check); and to be fair you really are only going to offend the very close minded since the word actually means an authoratative book; though as with god (small 'g') has been hijacked in modern culture.

Always a good place to start, mythology I mean. Africa has always been long underused as a source of inspiration (though thats primarily due to the multiple dialects and lack of written texts on its myth).

How many monsters were you hoping to create, and what size of book were you hoping to write?

One thing that always helps me is brainstorming. When I am trying to create a monster I try to come up with at least one original idea for that monster or take an existing idea and try and use it out of context.

Another good source of inspiration I have found is certain Hong Kong action movies, but there are so many movies of varying quality that its a mixed bag unless you know what you are looking for.

Indeed sounds like a Template. Perhaps its magical ink used for scribing spells which induces a sort of Jekyll and Hyde effect, an NPC could be a beneficent Priest during the day and a killer during the night unknown to him since he changes at dusk - good for murder mysteries maybe.

well i was thinking around 80 to 100 pages. It costs 7 bucks to bind the book and 3 cents per printed page as a base cost and i was going to sell the book for 2-3 bucks over the base price for profit.

as far as african monsters dragon released some monsters a while back Ii used them as a starting point and checked out the books in the works cited section. they gave me some more ideas, like this vampire like creature from native american myth who can make its mouth shape like a horn and suck out peoples brains!

i work at a movie theater so i plan on drawing up some pictures of the tattoo monster tonight if i get a chance. first i want to finish up this creature thats a dire bear body but a dragon head and tail that i was working on at collage today. should be cool.

well iam out lates

Have you ever thought about releasing it as a pdf product first to gauge opinions, before going to the expense of creating a printed version?

Are you doing the art for your book as well?

You could call it an Ursugon and make it a type of Devil maybe?

Cya mate.

i was going to release it as .pdf but its no real expense to me because iam using a print on demand service, so when some one orders if off my website the printer prints it up and mails it out. I plan on releasing a lite version, sort of like they release teaser chaperts for novels. People can check out the art work and the monsters and see if they would like to buy the full product.

Yeah iam doing the art for the book as well, iam doing pretty much everything. Art, Layout, Monsters, ect. ect.

*strong bad voice* Ursugon, eh? */strong bad voice*
sounds like a cool name, i was thinking of calling it Bandar, but Ursugon is indeed a cool name. As far as making it a devil, i was thinking along the lines of a polymorph spell gone wrong or even a dire bear being cross bread with dragon.

Oursogon would be more in-line with other devil names. :)

As for the title...

Critters & Constructs
Mythical Monsters
Manual Of Monstrous Abominations
Awful & Atrocious Beasts & Brutes
