Help Me Pick a Demon Lord

Shroomy

OK folks, I need some assistance in selecting a demon lord to be the patron of a tiefling villain (with a bunch of human cultists) in an 4e adventure that I'm working on. I was scanning Fiendish Codex I, but I couldn't quite come to a decision. I'm looking for a demon lord who is all about destruction and nothing but destruction (basically, someone whose followers would burn down a village and all of its inhabitants just cuz). Any suggestions, preferably with your reasoning, would be very much appreciated.

Maybe Abaddon, from the Book of Fiends? Titles: The Destroyer, Minister of Death and Havoc, Lord of the Bottomless Pit, King of Locusts.

The half a dozen paragraphs (or so) that follow provide some good info, too.

Not sure if it's exactly the kind of flavour you're after though. . . :hmm:

That's what I thought too, although his description is non-canonical.

Although coming out of the Book of Revelations like he does, he's arguably more resonant than canonical demon lords anyway. Erik Mona's Book of Fiends/Armies of the Abyss description of him is perfect, though. A complete nihilist, associated with Ragnarok/Judgement Day and the destruction of the earth? Perfect.

Erythnul, an evil greyhawk god of brutish senseless slaughter and not truly a demon lord but he fits the bill for having cultic followers burning down villages for fun.

Same for the Scarred Lands CE god Vangal. His nomadic horsemen cultists are known for that as well.

The demon god from Monte Cook's Demon God's Fane fits as well. A balor who cut off his wings in a power ritual he grants his followers the destruction domain IIRC. I can't remember his name off the top of my head though.

Khorne from WFRP is called the blood god, a pretty good demon lord patron as well for violent destruction by warrior types.

If you are looking for more of the complete nihilist version of destruction of everything that would be a different flavor though.

Goodman Games DCC 35 Known World Gazeteer has a cosmology with an original void entity who was defeated when the gods entered and created the multiverse, he seeks to destroy everything and works through wierd agents not quite consonant with reality in order to attempt to unmake creation. I forget his name as well.

I was thinking about Yeenoghu, but I'm not sure if the whole gnoll-flavor thing will quite work out.

Yeenoghu could work for this I think. He's more about bestial rage and destruction than gnolls, although I can see how the association would be natural for gamers.

You might want to give a look at Baphomet, it's the first demon lord that occured to me. You say there's a village involved? Fiendish Codex I, p. 59--"A growing number of humanoid cultists have taken to his worship in poor rural areas. Desperate commoners sometimes turn to beast-cults organized by evil rangers who claim to venerate a nature deity who promises vengeance to those who have been wronged by the local government."
