Help me! RPG Now needs a Credit Card for payment - and I don't own one!

Bah...the hassle of being Canadian.

Quite some time ago, I tried to buy from RPG now with a regualr VISA credit card...the site kept declining it, and threw me into a panic. Went and bought a couple bucks worth of gas just to see if the card was good and it was. SO emailed RPGnow and they said the problem was the Canadian card.

Ultimately, their message to me was "It's to prevent fraud...sorry about your luck." No offer to take a money order or nothing...so I said to hell with them.

I never had a problem with DriveThru though. I'm sorta sorry to see the merger.

I was travelling through the U.S. three or four years ago and we stopped to do some shopping. As we paid, I remember thinking "Man, what a hassle not being able to use my debit card." At the time, they had no system like ours.

Now they've gone and surpassed our technology with the Visa/Mastercard check cards.

Damn big brothers.

Nyaricus,

I know this won't help at this point, but you may want to go out and get yourself a credit card anyway. Not only will it help you out making purchases online, but when used correctly it's the most efficient way to get yourself a good credit history, which will help you out with that home purchase we talked about, down the line.

Well, he is taken care of on the pdf issue, once RPGNow tells me how to make sure he gets the pdf links and not me. I would think they would make buying the pdfs for a friend/as a gift to someone else would be much more prominently shown/explained. At least as prominently as the "gift certificate" option.

Not involved in this situation in any way, but damn, you are one good person, Treebore. It's heartening to see people offering a helping hand to others without any possibility for gain on their own behalf.

Thanks, Treebore, for just being a nice person.

You know the sad thing, I have offered help like this several times before, this is the first time, on this board, that I have been taken up on the offer.

I understand its very risky to trust, especially on the internet, but it is discouraging as well.

He even let me keep the change ($3.80) so I got to try out a couple of more cheap pdf's for my willingness to help.

He still hasn' e-mailed me to let me know the links I forwarded to him work OK. Hopefully it is because he is too busy reading all those pdf's he bought. :)

Hey Treebore, just to let you (and the rest of EN World, or at least those tuning into this thread) that yes, the links do work fine; I've only downloaded Grappling for Beginners as of now, but I havent' really had a chance for anything else yet. I went to school yesterday from 9 am to 2 pm, and then worked 3-11pm, and then worked again today from 1-9pm, so I really haven't had a chance to check back with this.

And, while I was (to a point - who wouldn't be?) a bit worried about my money, I trust the people from EN World enough to do that. Heck, I'd do it again if I needed to. I'm pretty sure, in any case, that there are easier ways of stealing 45 bucks. Treebore, I'm glad to hear you bought a few more pdfs with the cash - what'd'ya get?

All-in-all, I'm very ahppy to have helped support EN World and some of the publishers (the Le Games got quite a few bucks from me with it's wicked awesome UNOTHADOX line :D) and get a whole stack of decent books in return. That's pretty awesome.

Treebore, thank you again for your generosity and help in this. I likely couldn't have done it without your assisstance. I'm genuinely assured that there are, infact, good people doing good deeds still around.

And Devilbat, I have been planning to inquire about a credit card - just no time! School + full time work is bloody tiring man :\

cheers,
--N

Glad to hear it is working, the e-mail I received from RPGNow didn't sound confident about giving you the links would solve the "problem".

Things must be done differently in Canada with Credit Cards. In the US they are way to easy to get.

When you do get one only use it when you have to. Being out of money does not mean you have to. When you have to have the gas in your car or food on the table is have to. Otherwise you just want it. Plus pay it off ASAP, don't let it grow, which is all to easy to do in school.

Nope, things are easy to get here too.

If you're going to use a credit card to improve your credit rating, only use it when you don't need to. Make small purchases and pay them off right away. Within a short time, you'll see you credit score rise.

Most larger stores like Wal-Mart and the like now offer Visa Giftcards. It's basically a visa debit card with a set value. You put money into it just like a gift card, but it has the visa number and visa logo, so you can use it anywhere you can use a visa credit card (with rare exceptions, like renting a car).
Do NOT get a gift card for online purchases! The Visa/MasterCard/American Express gift cards do not have a billing address associated with them, which means they'll automatically fail any transaction that requires an address.

There are prepaid Visa/Mastercards you can get through stores like Walgreens which do have your own personal information attached, so those would work online. You can sign up for them also at GreenDot online.
