Help me stat out this this Tree

I've concieved of a new challenge, but I'm not even sure if this would work better as a monster or a hazard or what. Oh yeah, I guess I need a name for it too.

The idea is just a big tree, like a large oak, with tremorsense. The roots sense when prey is under the branches.

The tree drops sticky leaves down onto prey which might immobilize the smallest prey, but deal a small amount of acid damage (from digestive enzymes) to anyone to which they stick.

The problem comes in when a bunch of acid-laden leaves all stick to a single character, ruining equipment and possibly killing them.

The idea is that prey gets digested and absorbed through the root system.

One could hack down the tree, but that would cause so much commotion that a whole bunch of leaves fall down. Folks are better off just avoiding this hazard, hence, reproductive success.

I've always been a big fan of carnivorous plants :)
You could use the base stats from the Assassin Vine for the root system, making them stronger or weaker as appropriate, depending on the size of the tree.

If you want to make a creature out of this, perhaps the falling leaves could be treated as a ranged touch attack, only deployed against targets underneath the branches of the tree, dealing x acid damage per successful hit, then dealing subsequently damage each round thereafter. Say 1d6 initial acid damage, then 1d4 acid damage each round for the next 3 rounds. The leaves and acid can be washed off to prevent further acid damage; the target can take a move-equivalent action to wash off up to 2 leaves; 5 can be washed off during a full round.

I definatly like this idea. Oh, yes. :)

I can see it as an obsticle as it doesn't move or do anything... active. I could also see the branches turning into long thin willow like branches, which drip with your acid. Maybe it would need something to lure them (prey) in?

Bone Apple Tree

I love this Idea but I'm way too far from the game right now to make all the numbers right. Could someone add the 3.5 data to this description???

Bone Apple Tree

Created by a dark druid to protect the woodlands this tree is a bane to the unwary. Growing quickly to great heights it appears to be a twisted and lofty apple tree with high branches that give off a pleasant sweet aroma and several large apples, ripe for the picking. Woe to the wanderer that eats an apple or spends too much time beneath its branches.

If a character rests beneath a bone apple tree they will fall into a deep sleep.

If a character eats the fruit of a bone apple tree they will enter a coma.

Sleeping, or restrained creatures beneath the tree will gradually be intwined by seeking vines and roots from the tree's trunk. The tree's aroma brings sweet oblivion and sleep in such a way that creatures will not notice the encircling roots.

When the tree senses its victems are asleep and ensnared the vines tighten asphixiating its prey and the roots, like a thousand maple syrop spikes, draw out the body's blood.

Bone tree roots sit atop a mound of their collected corpses. Some say that a tree will only bear as many fruit as it has intelligent dead +1.

Alchemists have found dark uses for the fruit and blossoms of this tree.
If you burn its wood it smells of flesh -- the wood rots very quickly after being cut.
The tree can only be grown where its fruit is placed within a humanoid skull then planted.

Sigurd.

Anyone wanting to expand this & do a proper write up would be most appreciated.

Also for those seeking to put danger in the forrest I can recommend http://www.necromancergames.com/ for their freebie of two treants. The promo is for "Glades of Death".
