Help me value an Amulet of Sure Striking!

Eccles

Ragged idiot in a trilby.
I've got a new character joining the group; a 10th level Monk/Wizard/Shifter combination.

He's asked if he can buy an "Amulet of Sure Striking", from the weapon advancement of the same name in Magic of Faerun.

Giving a weapon the Sure Striking ability is a +1 effect, and gives the sword the ability to affect creatures with +5 Damage Reduction.

How much should I charge him for an Amulet which would have the same effect on all his unarmed attacks? (Including all the bite/swallow whole attempts he's almost certainly going to be making in the near future).

We're thinking about 9,000 at the moment, but I'd be grateful for your opinions.

Check out Bracers of Striking in the same book.

You can add weapon special abilities to them.

Did I (and the player) really miss something that obvious?

No, hang on. Bracers of striking are the ones that actually *give* you the +1 to hit and damage, aren't they.

He's just going for the ability to hit things with damage reduction, rather than the out-and-out damage squeeze.

Don't forget to take "Ranged" as one of the enhancements on the bracers.

Brilliant Energy!

"Chen, open the door!"
"I can't!"

"Chen, grab that idol!"
"I can't!"

"Chen, catch this flask of holy water!"
"I can't!"

I don't have Magic of Faerun, but my understanding is that you actually can't add enhancement bonuses to them, only special abilities like Flaming, Ghost Touch, Holy... or Sure Striking.

My favorite "Brilliant Energy" weapon is a whip. Get 'em from behind a wall, brudder.

But for the Bracers "ranged" and "returning" (or the PsiHB "teleporting") is the shiznit. You definitely want them in that combo. Ranged without returning it like mayo without bread.

But for the Bracers "ranged"...

"Throwing", please :)

Ooh, and get Ki Focus! It would let your monk use his unarmed strikes to channel Ki Abilities like Stunning Fist!

It's always useful to be able to use your fists for Stunning Fist!

Yup.

Heh, Ghost Touch for all your natural weaponry.

"What's wrong with your friend? He having a seizure or something?"

"No no, he's just grappling something on the etherial plane again."

"Throwing", please
Though you'll probably want to invest on making those Returning also, otherwise you could quickly find yourself out of limbs. On the up side, you could do some cool maneuvers like that 1st level boss from Altered Beast! Nothing quite so disturbing as when the monk rips off his own head and hurls it at you for a ranged headbutt.

I'm thinking Dancing may be up there for cool abilities, too. I'll just detatch my hands here... have them fight alongside me, and I'll kick and elbow you into oblivion, while my flyin' fists back me up!
