Help me with this feat

Prerequisites: Spellcraft 15+ ranks, Intelligence 17+, Scribe Scroll feat

Benefit: You may create scrolls of spells you do not know. The process is identical to the creation of scrolls via the scribe scroll feat with the following exceptions: cost to scribe is equal to twice the market value of the scroll, time required is one week per spell level. Finally, in order to make a scroll in this manner, you must succeed at a spellcraft check DC 20 + Spell level. If you fail, you may try again, but 1/2 of the materials are lost.

I'm thinking the cost might need to be changed.

Also, I know this could be done (kind of) with the spell research rules, but what I'm looking for is a way for a long-lived sorcerer to get scrolls of spells. Its hard for liches to head down to your local store and shop, especially when they live on the negative material plane and are highly reclusive. :)

First off, this goes in the House Rules Forum. No big deal, a moderator should move it when it gets noticed.

I think a powerful Lich would have their own Library. One does need to be 12th level at least to get this. I'm just not sure how they are doing this. Theoretically, this would open up any and all spells to a wizard to learn. Why spend weeks researching when you can scribe it and learn it that way?

I think the feat might be too powerful because of that.

1. Send this over to house rules.

2. Better Idea

Duplicate Scroll

Prerequisites; 10 ranks; spellcraft Scribe Scroll feat

Benefit: You may substitute a copy of a scroll for the prerequisite knowledge of how to cast a spell when attempting to create a scroll.

This means that the sor/lich is going to need a "master set" of scrolls said individual might want - but once He has a copy, He can make all the scrolls he wants. heck of a justification for the pile o scrolls not being used by the lich as well

I like this idea, it is a really good one.
