help on a level 6 gestalt

javcs

First Post
I'm building a level 6 gestalt, I'm leaning towards Scout 6 // Rogue 5/Assassin 1

Stats: Str 12, Con 12, Dex 18, Int 19, Wis 14, Cha 14
That's with the gray elf stat adjustments included. Without, I had 14, 14, 15, 17, 14, 14.

Sources: Core/SRD/Completes are fully cleared, everything else subject to DM approval.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Any and all help is appreciated.

With that much Int, I would be tempted to go Wizard. A fun gestalt combination is Swashbuckler/Wizard. With gestalt, it is a good idea for one of your classes to give you access to magic; doing so really expands your options.

If your DM will allow ToB classes, look at Wizard/Swordsage or Warblade. Swordsage has great saves and lots of utility manuevers, Warblade has great HP and gets Int to several things like reflex saves and critical confirmation.

Well, I wanted a high Int for the skill points, and because the save DC of the assassin's death attack is Int based.
Assassin spellcasting is Int based anyways.

What do you want out of the character? I could give you ideas but that would be my character :) Is it a wilderness or city campaign? Would you be the only evil member of the party? Plus it looks like you already have a build you want to do...

IIRC Scout/Rogue is a little redundant though because the "Skirmisher" and Sneak Attack's don't stack. Basically all you get out of the Scout class is:

1: d8 HD
2: +1 Competence to AC if you move more than 10 in the round
3: +1 to Fort saves (increases with levels)
4: and "Nature" abilities
a)Trackless Step
b) "Woodland Stride" renamed to "Flawless Stride"
c) Camoflage: hide in natural settings (8th level)
d) Hide in plain site: natural settings only (14th level)

For my money I would do something like this...

Barbarian 2/Druid 4//Rogue 5/Assassin 1

Get:
From Barbarian:
1: Net gain of +1 BAB (total +5 at 6th level)
2: Fast Movement (Bar 1), Illiteracy (offset by being literate from Rogue class), Rage (you don't have to use it)
3: Uncanny dodge (Bar 2), which when you hit Rogue 4 increases to Imp. Uncanny D.
4: 2d12 hps @ Lvl 1-2

From Druid:
1: Animal companion (if you want one), Nature Sense, Wild Empathy
2: Woodland Stride
3: Trackless Steip
4: +4 on saves vs. Fey
5: Druid spells (Lvls 0-2 right now)
6: d8HD still... :)

You would only really want to take a max of 8 levels in Druid as your wisdom (unless you up with with levels) would stop your ability to cast druid spells beyond this level. If you do that you get Wild Shape 3/day and Large wildshape too, which can be useful with studying opponents for the Assasin's Death Attack...

Let me know what you think! :)

Oh and to get the Hide in Plain Sight ability you could probably be taking levels in Shadow Dancer by 8th if you played your skills/feats right.

Throw an Endurance feat in there and 1 Level of Horizon Walker and you get Darkvision 120' too! Mmm, mmm; Elves with Darkvision!

I'd agree with Salthorae that Scout/Rogue is a bit redundant for a Gestalt. There strong points overlap too much, and skirmish and sneak attack are hard to take full advantage of at the same time.

Scout/Warlock works pretty nicely, IMO. Adding flight into the mix and a single big standard action attack is nice with the Scout's abilities.

Scout/Psion or Scout/Wizard would take good advantage of the high intelligence.

In terms of Scout/Psion, check out the power "Hustle" for some really nice skirmish options. :)

Wiz (Conjurer) 1/Swashbuckler 3/Rogue 1/Assassin 1 \\ Scout 6

Swashbuckler: HD and BaB and Weapon proficiency boost. Int added to damage

Wizard: Take the Conjurer option from PhBII - useful anytime, but especially with skirmish.
Wizard will also help your UMD and allow you to scribe some useful scrolls (Alarm, Mount, Unseen Servant, Nystul's Magic Aura, etc) to keep on hand.

My suggestion would be Duskblade/Wizard. At 7th level take Eldritch Knight for the wizard and continue in duskblade.

Though if you are a skirmisher, your choice can be awesome. Move into flanking position and having moved at least 10', you get +6d6 damage to everything else.

Sorry, I didn't know that they didn't stack. Another would be scout/duskblade.

To be clear, they do stack in terms of damage. They just have different activation conditions which makes them hard to use together. A melee rogue will generally prefer to flank and once flanked to full attack, preferably with two weapons. A ranged rogue will want greater invisibility or a ring of blinking, rapid shot, and as many full attacks as possible.

A scout of any stripe wants to keep moving, making full attacks difficult.

Also, they don't stack in terms of skill points or reflex saves.
