In the "special" part of the feat. I think it says that the damage gained is double the amount subtracted from your BAB with two-handed weapon, or with a one-handed weapon wielded in two hands.
My GM is saying that it means you have to subtract double your BAB to gain 1 damage bonus.
would like to know what everyone thinks.

Special: If you attack with a two-handed weapon, or with a onehanded
weapon wielded in two hands, instead add twice the number
subtracted from your attack rolls. You can’t add the bonus from
Power Attack to the damage dealt with a light weapon (except with
unarmed strikes or natural weapon attacks), even though the
penalty on attack rolls still applies. (Normally, you treat a double
weapon as a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. If you choose
to use a double weapon like a two-handed weapon, attacking with
only one end of it in a round, you treat it as a two-handed weapon.)
A fighter may select Power Attack as one of his fighter bonus feats
(see page 38).

Your DM doesn't seem to properly comprehend the part where it says "add twice the number subtracted from your attack rolls." With a weapon wielded in two hands, Power Attack allows the user to take a -1 attack penalty to gain +2 damage. The penalty goes as high as one's BAB, so someone with a 20 BAB can trade 20 attack for 40 damage. His version would essentially be saying "I trade 2 BAB for 1 damage." I'll be blunt, I have rarely heard something so stupid concerning D&D ever.

Do you really think you should let the guy with that severe reading comprehension problem DM for you? Next he'll rule Armor Check Penalty is subtracted from your AC. Or spell failure chance applies to spells cast on the guy in armor.

As an aside, neither of the options presented in the pole are an accurate description of how Power Attack works.

True, but anyone who reads the OP first should be able to figure it out. I just wish this was the kind of poll where you can see who voted for what. Something like this is a great "weed out" question. By that I mean, anyone who votes the second option I'd know immediately to put on my ignore list to avoid future headaches due to facedesk. Oh well.

Then it's a good thing all ten voters picked the correct way PA works?

Ask your DM why he thinks anyone with a 2H weapon would want to use Power Attack, then. Then mention to him that the purpose behind the feat is you are swinging your weapon harder, so it's not as easy to control, but a heaver weapon (read 2H) would deal more damage. It's also the reason light weapons don't gain the benefit.
