Help pricing items

Although I'm happily playing in a low-level campaign atm, when we play higher level games I generally GM. A lot of them spend some time on Everquest (I don't) and they were wondering how I would price an item that "procs." Proc, for those who don't know, is short for process. In essence, a weapon will from time to time (out of the player's control) create a magic effect.

In d20 terms I figure this will be whenever the weapon confirms a critical, but I need some formula to work it out. I'm thinking of using the formula given for use/day items since, in theory it could be more but the player can't pick the time. This ability won't work on keen weapons, etc. (ala bless weapon.)

Obviously, as GM I'll be looking over these items. Slow is fine, Disintergrate isn't.

As a fellow EQer, I always saw procing weapons as the "burst" weapons (page 224-225 DMG) there is Fire Burst, Ice Burt, Thundering ... etc

On a sucessful crit they ..."proc"... and do more Dmg (1d10 for every Mutiplyer above 1. So 1d10 on X2 2d10 on X3 .. etc).

thing is though, they are all flame/ice/etc weapons as is (dealing extra 1d6 on a sucessful hit). So, iimho just make a wepon that deals just the extra dmg on a threat and it would equal out to be the same price (2000 gp for "+1 ranked"). Thus a procing weapon
