OT on Troll comments

Occasionally the "It's A Troll! It's A Troll!" people perform a public service in alerting gullible types like me to genuine trolls, and stopping us getting sucked in to pointless arguments - but all too often there's a tendency to jump on ANY slightly unusual post (mine included) and cynically insist that it's a troll. Usually, it's not, and this behaviour is both offputting and depressing. Now, I guess it's the genuine trolls like Bugaboo who are most to blame for this state of affairs - if no one trolled, the cynics wouldn't cry wolf at every slightly odd post - but I think you wolf-cryers really ought to wait a bit before yelling troll so often. I think it's usually the second post that establishes whether someone really is trolling or not. On the Internet it's very easy to come across wrong in one's first post, you need to have some patience.

Oh, and high Ellie(sp?)! :)

Elleia, if you want to read some wonderful stories about many D&D games, go to the Story Hour forum on these boards. You will find beautiful tales, action and adventure, and you will learn what D&D is about.

BTW, Darkness, I love you moderator's logic :D

It's also an expensive hobby that has many of us trapped in its grasp.

Expensive? I find it (and RP in general) incredibly cheap, far cheaper than any other hobby. Sure, the rule books are often expensive. But a set of rule books can last for fifteen or twenty years. Once you realise (and I realised early) that you don't need adventures or world books, and that splatbooks actually make the games worse, not better, you are liberated. If you are short of money, you pick one game and play that, or borrow rulebooks when you get tempted forth into something like RuneQuest.

RP is only expensive if you compulsively buy crap. And everything is expensive if you compulsively buy crap.

Regards,

If you have some spare cash, go to your local bookstore and purchase the "Player's Handbook." Make certain that you purchase the one for "3rd edition" as some copies of the 2nd edition are still floating around out there. Or, go here and see what the cover of the book looks like:

Player's Handbook

Then try to find some friends to play with! :-)
