Help Twinking Out a 12th Level Monk

Additional Advice: Fighting monks still need str more than anything. It effects attack, damage, and all those important opposed rolls like trip and grapple.

Dex and Wis are both useful for AC as well as combat reflexes and stun DCs respetively, but the one higher stat still usually is best left as str.

A 32 PB Monk, assuming you need to buy the big Cha for sanctified/Holy Ki Strike and Fist of the Heavens, will however suffer form such mad that there may not be that much of a super-stat.

Perhaps:

Str 14
Dex 14
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 14
Cha 14

...then get +2 items for str, dex, and wis, maybe +4 on str. Con is less important for an action monk, since he'll rely on using a high AC and Defensive Throw, Hold the Line, reach, and imptrip/str/enlarge and stunning fist/fist of the heavens/ability focus to get lots of AOOs and disrupt attacks by tripping or stunning. Hes still vulnerable to missile fire and very big high fort creatures, but he actually still does a lot of damage in a full attack without using any of the tricks.

Hyperconscious is a 3rd party product written by Bruce Cordell that nicely dovetails off of his work in the Expanded Psionics Handbook.

The Lucid Cenobite is a monk prestige class within its pages. It advances in all the ways you want. As I recall, its essentially the PHB monk but with different special abilities.

OHH ok I thought the4 cenobites were the 3 demon flunkies working for Pinhead the spiked chain flinging guy from Hellraiser. That combined with the definition of Lucid from the dictionary:

lu·cid ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lsd)
adj.
Easily understood; intelligible.
Mentally sound; sane or rational.
Translucent or transparent. See Synonyms at clear.

I was really REALLY confused "sane rational Demons"?

Alternatively, the non-VOP version that can buy a Ring of Continuous Enlarge for 16k....

Human M10/F2

Regular Feats(12) : Monastic training: Fighter(HB) Improved Unarmed Strike(M1), Stunning Fist(M1), Combat Reflexes(M2), Dodge (L3), Improved Trip(M6), Defensive Throw(L6), Hold The Line(F2), Fist of the Heavens (F1), Ability Focus (Stunning Fist) (L1), Sanctify Ki Strike (L12), Improved Natural Attack(L9)

This build is probably better. You lose the +2d6 v evil from Holy Ki Strike (which you can pick up at L15 anyway), gain more flexability in your eq, and instead move your damage v everytihng form 1d10 base to 3d6 base, plus you gian the large size bonuses to your str and trips (though loss to dex), and can take ability focus on your stuns.

I'm looking at this build right now. I'm pretty sure my GM won't allow Eberron, what can I replace Monastic Training with?

Furthermore, what books are each of those feats from?

Ok, nevermind, I found WotC big list of feats. Ability Focus is from the Monster Manual 4?? Man, that's like the only book I don't have! What does it do?

Well, monstic training is what allows you to get fist of the heavens and holy ki strike sooner witohut becoming an ex-monk. All ithe feat does is allows monks to multiclass to a single class. Complete Adventure has feats specific to Monk/X's , all of which provide additioanl benefits. Its clear that feats that allow multiclass monks are core norm, they just havent added a fighter one yet, and this version is strictly worse than the ones in CV for other classes. Perhaps try to point that out. There is nothing inherantly Ebaroney per se to the feat.

Ok, what's a Ring of Continuous Enlarge?

Ah, nevermind. It's a ring with Enlarge cast in it, and the Continuous Spell Effect. DMG page 285!

And here is an alternatve version...

Human M10/Initiate of Pistis Sophia2

Regular Feats(12) : Servant of the Heavens(HB) Improved Unarmed Strike(M1), Stunning Fist(M1), Combat Reflexes(M2), Dodge (L3), Improved Trip(M6), Defensive Throw(L6), Hold The Line(L9), Fist of the Heavens (ISP1), Ability Focus (Stunning Fist) (L1), Sanctify Ki Strike (L12),

Additionally, IPS levels stack with monk levels for damage, flurry, speed, ac, and ki strike. This is key becuase it gets you ANOTHER another attack with flurry and another 10 feet of movement. You also get a damage increase but lose INA so it balances. Next level you could take F1 and INA, and eventually get Holy Ki Strike (+2d6 v evil on all, but not a fighter feat). As ana dded bonus, IPS1 gives you smite 1/day and detect evil. However, you'll not be able this way to keep up with more monk levels, tohugh you can continue in IPS and/or another monk prc.

(Oops, it seems that this doesnt work bc sanctify ki strike is required to get into the class. This is odd, because that would mean it cant be completed before epic levels. I wonder if thats been errataed.)
