Help with finding playmat

And whatever you decide to use, make a mini-table for it to raise it six to eight inches off the main table. It is still central and easy to see and use, but having the mat on a mini-table opens up all the space underneath for dice, papers, books, snacks, etc. The mini-table was the best D&D accessory my group ever added and it was homemade for about $2 (four one-inch dowels screwed into the chalkboard material we use for a battlemat).

Brilliant! :)

According to their website, the largest mat Chessex makes is 34 1/2" x 48" and costs $29.98. That is almost the same area as a Tact-Tiles 12 tile set (30" x 40").
Actually the biggest mat that Chessex makes is the 102"x54" Mondo Mat. Big enough for most people I suspect...

The Auld Grump

That's weird. I checked the Chessex site right before I posted before to make sure, and the biggest mat I saw was the Mega. But you are correct. Sorry about the misinformation.

The price is $99.98 (plus S&H) for the Mondo double sided (didn't see a Mondo single sided). You get a lot of area, but you also get wet-erase (uggh!) and a wavy surface.

I went out to Steel Sqwire's site today and they are releasing a product called "Flip-Mats." I have their templates, which are awesome. It looks like a cool product for the DM-on-the-go,

Oops. I didn't see you were looking for a dry-erase mat. I'm not sure this is what you're looking for.

Neat! I'll keep an eye out for them at GenCon.

I use a 20x20 1" grid mat I picked up at GenCon from Chessex last year for $5 quite a bit. For the con, I'll be using my DragonScale mats if I run anything.

You probably looked up Mega Mats, for some reason the really stupidly huge mat is called a Mondo Mat. I want one, but cannot convince myself to spend the $99...

The Auld Grump, who mostly does not use grids for anything aside from placing the terrain, rulers for movement, ranges, etc. instead.

how heavy is a box of Tactiles? I will be riding to Gencon and would love a set of these but not having to haul them around for four days and then switch cars on the way back to get into my car. Shipping is only 8.00 for a case though, hmmmmmm

I don't know their exact weight, but they aren't necessarily something I would want to lug around for 4 days at Gen Con. They wouldn't be bad if you were only switching cars and stuff though. I take mine to our every other week game with no issue and I took half of them to Origins one day for a game were playing one night.
