Help With Gestalt Please

First Post
I'm trying to run a gestalt game, and there is some discussion going on about a few of the details. Does anyone know if any PrClasses are banned when gestalting, are there any that are wise to ban as a house rule. Also, can you suffer an XP penalty due to multiclassing in a gestalt system, or does such a concept not exist in a gestalt. Thanks for any help in advance.

While this is not really expressed in the rules, I think Gestalt is actually meant to be done without excessive multiclassing. ;)

Ur-Priest is one class I'd not allow. Mystic Theurge is another, which is probably a bit much with Gestalt, since you do not have the normal cost associated with the class, if you can be a cleric and a wizard at the same time. In fact all the PrC, which are meant to enhance multiclassing of some classes (Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster) will not really work well together with Gestalt rules for similar reasons.

I'd even consider to use only core classes maybe, or at least only very straightforward PrC.

But I can't say, that I have tried that stuff, really. :)

Unearthed Arcana doesn't really address the issue of Gestalt multiclassing itself. I wrote Incorporating the Gestalt Rules to attempt to compensate for it.

As far as banned PrCs go, Thanee has the right of it-- any of the "multiclass" Prestige Classes, like the Arcane Trickster or the Mystic Theurge should be banned. Anything that depends on a lack of certain class features for balance, like the Warhulk or the Survivor, should be banned. Other than that, I'd say most Prestige Classes work just fine with the Gestalt rules.
