help with my 1st level character

Here's a really weird suggestion, if you still wish to fill a fighting role:

Go fighter, and for your feats take feats dealing with expertise, disarming, tripping, etc. - all the feats that rely on intelligence.

Then, use weapons that give bonuses to tripping and disarming - spiked chain, halberd, etc. - especially glaive, since it can be done at range.

Then, disorient the enemy as much as possible, while the rest of the party uses their talents to kill them off.

you could also go between this and levels of rogue, specializing in social skills.

i would swap the int and wis score, and become a cleric too.

you can focus on melee- so you can be a secondary fighter- with the proper domains (str, luck, death, destruction) you can really kik arse- especially when you can craft your own magic weapons and armor.

Or- if you really want style- go psiwarr- same ascleric- but different abilities- and lower spell progressions.

you come first

one thing for sure, you don't have to take a somthing like a fighter, you can by yourself a tank. I DMed a game with a mage with 4 STR, he always had is 4 goon with him.

Your character could be a bard with the turst for story of the strange, that's why he would gang with them. Alway ceaping in the back, casting spells and boosting aid is compagnons. Taking the spotlignt only when in a town, a inn to tell te story of the other adventurer, but never imself.

I think you could do well by making Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster. Start with Rogue to get the skills and the Sneak Attack, then take Wizard levels until you can become the Trickster.

Only one problem with the "buy yourself a goon" theory: Most first level characters do not have the funds to hire mercenaries.

Also, one other note: the original poster said that the DM would NOT allow him to swap his scores. So what he's dealt with is what he's got.

The ultimate choice would be a rogue or wizard, but your party is seriously deficient in front-line muscle. Having a very INT-based fighter, or a very combative rogue, might help party survival, but wouldn't help you make the kind of character you want to be.

BattleMage!!

Your party needs a "tank": but your PC can't lift 70 lbs. without straining. Your PC also could hit the broad side of a barn maybe 2 times out of 5.

This sounds like a job for - BATTLEMAGE!!

So check it: master of buff, readied Cat's Grace and StrongLikeBull spells at his fingertips. Practically permanent Mage Armor, and weapon buffs, as well. In his spare time, he likes to give things bonuses to hit.

I'm sure Monte has a template for it somewhere.

I would say go wizard and look toward getting the leadership feat so you can aquire a little muscle down the road. As long as you are all weak combatants it gives you a reason to work together and to work cautiously without having to worry about some combat oriented wank who wants his day in the sun dragging the rest of you into situations you don't want to be in. You might consider taking some social skills like diplomacy and bluff (if you worried about cross class then take cosmopolitan). And all the previous aside, wizards really benefit from having two or more in the party as they can share spells, and spellbooks in an emergency, and can have a wider variety of spells prepared to deal with various situations.

Share your spells, it is Azuth's will.

Your best bet would be a bard maybe with the rogue as a multiclass later. It would give you a lot of skills and I would definately be an elf. Even though you don't get the human feat, you do get a +2 to Dex.

Then you would have a decent chance of hitting someone with ranged weapons, some spells to keep people back, and when the chips are down bolster them with song.

Good feats to take early would be Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Finesse and so on. Be more of a light combat orientated PC. With the Rogue multi you could sneak attack soon.

Just some ideas.
