FR has some interesting choices for a pally.. Torm and Tyr are classic ones to take; Kelemvor and Sune are among the odder options. Escpecially Sune. Which god you pick will both shape the nature of your paladin's duties, and also decides your multiclassing options.

What sort of Pally do you want? Hulking smasher? A sword & shield fighter who relies on his or her sacred powers for that much-needed edge?

If you have a decent charisma (an excellent charisma is even better), Divine Might from the cleric splatbook is a fantastic feat. Actually my experience with the 3E paladin is that the more Charisma the paladin has, the scarier she gets.

How interested are you in mounted combat? The bonded mount can be very good, but it takes feats to properly employ the thing.

You'll want enough wisdom to actually be able to use spells. I believe they gave Holy Sword a horrible beating with the nerf stick (which is an incredible shame, since that spell was practically the only reason to go for being a high-level pally), but spells like Divine Favor are among the neat tricks that pallies have to smash evil.

Most important question: Are you picking paladin becuase you just want k3w1 p0w3rz? Or do you actually want to play a dedicated crusader for good?

Edit: 28 points? Gak. The closest thing Paladins have to a dumpstat are Dex and Int, and both of those are terrible things to have as dumpstats. You're gonna have to decide what you're willing to give up. Once you're high enough level to take it, Divine Might would enable you to get away with sacrificing Str for Cha. What's the starting level of the campaign? 1st? Human and Aasimar are basically the favored races for Paladin, but Aasimar isn't even an option if the starting level is 1st.

thanx alot for the tips.. in fact.. i want either or heronius or moradin .. im playing with my cousin and he is a dwarf.. IRL and in D&D ... so either choice....

now at the beggining im willing to use a sword and shield pally but then with the apropiate feats i think.. ill usea masive two-handed weapon either sword or hammer... so i like a hulking pally .. other thing my dm not my cousin told me thet the pally was the best Roleplay i make so ..... im gonna try it.. im usually a fighter or an archer... but nbow .. ill be good to my DM and make the pally he allways tells me to do... an i like the idea.. very much...

My main suggestion is to start out with a vision of your concept for the character. Obviously, since you will have low-to-average stats for your character, you will be forced to play by your wits, not your mad combat skyllz. Check out the gods of whatever campaign setting you are playing in. Then find out what god has some of the most intersting qualities you would like your character to be embodying. Finally, choose some sort of weakness that your character has; this can be tough in the game but will make for some very interesting (and even hillarious) game nights.

Paladin of a war deity? Make him out to be a glorified fighter - dumb as a box of rocks (low intelligence) and only mildly wiser than most (11 or 12 Wisdom). Sure, you won't have access to all of the higher level spells, but nobody can have EVERYTHING. Or...focus his stats elsewhere to show an emphasis on a different type of diety or method of worshipping it.

There are near-infinite ways of setting up a character, but starting with a solid idea that you will really have fun with and be interested in developing is where you need to start. As for Prestige Classes and multi-classing options, just use whatever books you already have at your disposal; trying to hunt down obscure classes or hidden feats is an aggravation that I hate trapping myself into.

I discourage a two-hander Pally. With his low dex, he's going to have to rely on SOMETHING to avoid being hit, and you can be sure the other non-armored members of the party (arcanists, rogues, bards, and to an extent the two weapon weilding ranger) will be requiring those non-armor AC boosting items quite vehemently (and they should too), like rings an amulets.

Your smite evil and Divine Might feat will more than make up for those few damage points extra you would be making while weilding a two-hander. Just remember to boost that charisma, don't forget strength, and put 12 in dex. If you don't expect to go high in levels, don't bother with wis too much, and get Divine Might with your 6th level feat slot (remember to take Power Attack before that, possibly at 1st level. You get the most bang for the buck with power attack at levels 1 to 5 because you only have one attack anyways.

YMMV

I'm assuming the person in question is your cousin in real life, and not a dwarf in real life :D

As for your paladin... 28 points... FR... ouch indeed. I'd probably suggest to forget about the spells, and go for Goody Smashface... Perhaps dwarf isn't the best race, unless you make one of those dwarves that has a penalty to dex instead of charisma.

Str 16
Dex 10 (-2 = 8)
Con 12 (+2 = 14)
Int 10
Wis 10
Cha 16

You won't have spells, you won't have skills, you'll need an armor an inch thick, and you'll have to optimize your Smite Evil ability :) (If there are any feats that let you make more smites each day, it might be an idea to pick up those).

Often overlooked is the halfling Paladin! Hear me out.

A Halfling Paladin who focuses on Riding feats Is quite the bruiser. You can essencially bring a riding dog anywhere a human sized PC could go, so you'll pretty much ALWAYS be mounted.

Its an entertaining option and suprisingly effective. I agree with other posters that CHR is vital. Str and Con are useful. Wis is sort of a waste, the paladin doesn't get many spells and the spells he gets aren't all that useful. You can always get a Wis item later in your carreer,

for those stats .. im gonna convince my DM to change that.... it really sux...
my dm i knda nutz... he likes that we can make pretty good chars and very strong ones and stuff he like su to be heroes.... but i dunno what happened to him now.... *giggle*

i think the idea of making 2 fighter levels will help alot cuz in future levels i want my pally to be a 2handed weapon fighter... and i think i can complement some fighting feats.. for example puting WF and 2handed W Fighting

i want my pally to be a very good melee fighter... as well as a good caster but caster for support.. i dunno .... i was planing in taking the great scimitar... which gives a godd crit rate.. putting dirtyfighting also ... and improved dirty fighting...

but im concerned about defence feats.. but well...

i dunno you´re the experts... i want my pally to be a 2 handed weapon fighter that make GOOD dam and a good supported

If you can chose to be a human you can go with these stats. They are more or less average, with slighlty above average Cha. You won't get much in the way of magic.

SRT-15
DEX-11
CON-13
INT-13
WIS-13 (+ 2 if Aasimar)
CHA-17 (+ 2 if Aasimar)
