This power full cloak is made from thick gray fabric made of roots from underground plants. The cloak is of deepgnome origin. Ones per day, as a standard action, the cloak extends itself to cover the whole body of its bearer. This gives the bearer DR 10/+5 as the spell “stone skin”.
When the cloak has absorbed 101HP of damage or 10 minutes has passed it return to its normal form.

What price tag would you put on this item?

Suggestion:
4*10=40 (4th level spell*10th caster level)
40*2000=80.000 (unlimited use)
80.000/5=16.000 (one use per day)
16.000-20%=12.800 (limited duration)
12.800+100%=25.600 (user don’t need Material Components)

Would you ad more for the usefulness of the item?

Well, I'm sure you've noted that Vestments of Faith provide permanent 5/+5 protection, and they run 76k.

This works once/day, but provides twice the protection . . . of course, it needs to be activated. I'd say your proposed price is a little low, maybe?

Of course, if you're talking about Official 3E prices, I can't help you :).

It is an activated item with one charge per day. I wouldn't give it the limited duration cost reduction (the item can still stop 100 points of damage) but the base cost for an activated item is 1800, not 2000 GP. You left out the +12500 GP for the material component cost that must be added to the cost of making the item (this cost can't be reduced, but it doesn't add to the XP cost).

I would place the market price at:

(4*10*1800 GP) / 5 + 12500 GP = 26900 GP

Creation cost: 19700 GP + 576 XP

You left out the +12500 GP for the material component cost that must be added to the cost of making the item (this cost can't be reduced, but it doesn't add to the XP cost).

Where do you see that price for material component? I can’t find that in DMG item creation.

And you’re right about the multiplier of 1800 and not 2000.

I know vestment of faith but that is an “always on” item, IMO there is a huge difference in usefulness compared to my “Cloak of deepgnomekind”

Indeed, the price of costly material components should be added to this kind of items, but that would bring the cost to close to 40k. Considering that displacement cloak is 50k, that might be a bit high. Or maybe ok. I don't know. :)

DMG, Table 8-40 double asterisk note.

Continuous, uncharged items: pay for 100 charges of components.

Continuous, charges per day item: pay for 50 charges of components.
