Here's a list of published settings. Which are good for the PoL style?

I believe that Eberron is hands down the best setting for 4E, and as good PoL fit as well. Of the rest I think SL is also a good PoL and probably 4E fit. Midnight is quintessential PoL but I'm not sold on it as a 4E fit. The others that I think are good PoL settings are Dark Legacies and Ravenloft. One definite PoL setting not on your list is Cyradon for HARP.

People that think Eberron isn't POI often forget about the map scale. If you compare the Faerun scale to the Khorvaire scale you realise Khorvaire is about the size of Faerun. When I realised that, Eberron's points of light suddenly looked much farther apart.

I love REH. I love the setting material in this line. Awesome stuff. But I'm reluctant to use it for 4e. First off, it's a setting that most people are casually familiar with. So it would be hard to add in things like Elves and Dwarves. So, you're either stuck with just humans or some kludge to make the other races more human.

Second, I've always had a hard time gaming in Hyboria. I mean, it's an awesome setting. But I always feel like I have to put everything back in its place before I leave the room.

And magic is very different in Conan. Not sure how 4e would translate, if at all. I'd say wait until Martial Power comes out and then make all spellcasters NPCs. That would save a lot of trouble.

Sounds to me like you should be giving Slaine a look. It's Conan to a large degree, with a more unknown world, more races, more weirdness overall. But it's very similar.

Dark Sun. I don't know how well it will translate to 4E, but it's the perfect points of light / realistic setting AFAIK.

No gods, elemental priests instead, perfect for the changes to alignment.

Deal with psionics by giving everyone the half-elf "multi-class" ability (one free at-will power that they use as a per encounter power) call is a mental effect, and you're set.

The cities that stand are ruled by tyrants of pure evil and cunning. They slaughter their own subjects to fuel a ritual that grants them more power. Evil bastards. Some of the backstory is that they chose a race and eradicated it from the face of Athas. All of them, gone. Genocide. Evil bastards.

To make it even better, simply fast forward a few centuries, use the maps for the locations of ancient ruins, and off you go.

EDIT: further, it's also largely unexplored. Only the valley of Tyr was detailed in the setting / novels. A bit outside of that was detailed in the later expansions, but the majority of the planet / plane / whatever are open.

Best setting ever produced.
I was about to say a lot of this, though you would do well to ignore everything from "Beyond the Prism Pentad" onwards. It doesn't get more POL than Dark Sun.

(Why do so many people write "POI"? "Light" starts with an L.)

Points of Light.

When you're not paying proper attention, your brain plays strange tricks on you.

I'm using Lone Wolf RPG from mongoose. I'm basing it around Sommerlund and Lone Wolf never survived.

I'm mishmashing DND 4th and Magnamund, trying to make it as easy as I can for myself. Anything in the PHB stays as is, possibly slight renaming or alt names.

I'll make some of the cooler monsters, like Vordaks and Helgasts, and change the names of others from the MM to suit the setting.

Elves, Eladrin, Dragonborn, tieflings and halflings are a bit of a problem, but I have some idea how to work them in.

- Elves/Eladrin are Children of the Shianti (my own creation)
- Dragonborn/tieflings had their empires in the west of Magnamund on the north/south divide.
- Haflings are common around the middle of magnamund and have not played a huge part in Magnamunds history

And the Darklords are Demon princes brought to Magnamund by Naar (Asmodeus).

I've already started with Curse of the Burning Plague as an assault on Toran via the river Tor. This will lead them to Raiders of Oakhurst.

And I get to use the cool maps from Project Aon:

I think this setting would be a no-brainer to use in 4e. Make spellcasting a little tougher (or not). No divine casters. And you're pretty much done.

As long as you're not married to the roles of the races in Midnight (which are cool by the way -- go Ice Elves!), I think you could carry over the main premise of the setting fairly easily.

Eladrin become Caransil. All other Elves are some take on the 4e Elf. Gnomes become Halflings. Midnight Halflings go away (or become 4e Gnomes). Dwarves stay the same. Tweak Humans a bit by race. Get rid of the Heroic Paths. Make the Legates Shadar-Kai and BOOM! Game on.
What are Shadar-Kai, and why won't Clerics (& Paladins etc.) do for Legates? You would need to create Astirax mechanics, of course.

I don't see where the Tieflings and Dragonborn fit in.

But otherwise, yeah - I think Midnight can make a very good POL setting. I don't think the high power-level and magic-level of 4e would do it harm, if properly treated.

This.

I'm of the opinion that SL is actually a better fit for a 4E setting than it was a 3E one.

That's a pity, seems like the SL campaign setting is a hard book to come by..

Dark Sun. <snip lots of good stuff>

Man. How did I forget to mention this? Dark Sun is not only one of the greatest campaign settings ever, but yes, it was PoL before PoL was cool. ;)

(I refer, for the record, to the original Dark Sun. As others have implied, the later material was, while not bad, definitely of lesser value, IMO.)

If I could only choose one classic (and official) campaign setting to make a return in 4E, even though there are a few others I like as much (or even better), I'd have to pick Dark Sun for its sheer combination of major cool, high quality, and perfect fit.

Hmm. I've seen lots of the SL books on EBay and various used book stores. Look around; it shouldn't be too hard.

And if all else fails, the entire line (or at least most of it) is available in PDF format via drivethrurpg.com.
