Just note that these monsters were written with the math from the last playtest packet, which has changed. So know that going in and no kvetching the monsters are too weak/strong in the new edition :p

The thing throwing me for a loop are the low level monsters. For example Goblins now use a fractional CR (like 1/4). Previously, the floor for these monster was 1. The new Goblin is now worth 40 XP while the old version is 10 XP. Adding +1 AC, +1 Damage, +50% HP works for adjusting the power of the monster, but getting the XP values of other monsters can be tricky.

If anyone's interested, I created a cheat sheet for converting monsters from Next to 5E. Slightly different than the method above, and it's pretty rough, but I think it gets the job done. (Let me know if there are any major errors, though.)

Wow, thanks for this, JEB! One question - I've noticed you don't mention AC at all. Should that remain unchanged in your opinion? Others have suggested improving AC a tad.

Correct, from what I saw AC was generally the same between Next and 5E. Of those that did increase, it was usually due to changes in equipment. So I figure it's safer to leave AC alone.

FYI to all, made a minor update - forgot to include the increase for weapon damage when it's wielded by a large creature.

Also, I may add some guidelines for huge creatures - I held back before because there weren't any in the Starter Set, but I may be able to come up with something from Next alone. (Open to suggestions, of course.)
