D&D 5E Here's why we want a Psion class

What I'd like to see is the current magic system stripped down to it's bare essentials and re-conceptualized. Minor at-will abilities that can be juiced with a resource pool (slots, points, whatever) to produce level gated improved effects. Really don't see the need for a laundry list of unrelated psionic "spells".

So someone tells Max that he wants non-counterspellable spells. Max replies, nope, I'm fine with counterspell. Then someone else says, but you can't counterspell it.... Good gracious people, can we not just take something as given? Max said he's fine with abilities being countered, rather than kvetching over details about how that works, why not talk about the actual mechanics.

Personally I'd rather design the class powers so counterspell isn't an issue, but you'd probably lose a lot of the historical abilities that way. I'm fine with that, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

people can lie.

By the time you've seen the effect of a spell, it has already been cast, and thus, is in capable of being counterspelled.
What part of " if you can detect the casting of a "spell." did you not understand? Not after a spell has been cast. Not when it's already been cast. But, the casting of a "spell" present tense.

And without VSM, how do you detect a spell being cast?
Who cares? We can assume its possible and continue talking about mechanics on that basis. You can open up the throttle on the power level a bit if anti-magic also applies as a counter. The exact nature of the counter is unimportant at the spitball stage.

He knows the answer to that. He read my very clear statement about it a few posts ago.

He has no interest in constructive conversation.
