Looks like it's going to top the US box office this weekend as well.. ;)
Heh. People recognise quality.

Where are you getting your info from, Krug? If it's not a trade secret, that is....

i've seen it 8 times now (various vcd and dvd incarnations before the big screen debut) and i love it. aside from the blatant communist propaganda, the soundtrack and use of color do it to me every time.

I have to agree with it. The story was decent enough, the cinematography was good, but the second the chinese propaganda kicked in, I was forced out of the movie cause my mind went to Tibet and Taiwan.

Maybe it’s because of my prior knowledge of the event, but I always thought the final choice was not about unification of china, but rather about choosing the lesser path of evil. If nameless kills the king, he would have his revenge, and the entire civil war would start all over again between the kingdoms for the next few centuries. If he doesn’t kill him, he will probably turn out to be a tyrant, but there will be no more wars, and the people's suffering will not be as great.

However, given the way it is translate, I can see how it can also be interpreted as propaganda. But the question one must ask yourself is, if it is a American civil war flick and the message given is the same or similar, I wonder who people would react to it. (ie, the US must remain as one)

Nope. Boxofficemojo.com as others have pointed out. You can check Friday's numbers and that should give you a good idea about who won the weekend.

Well, the US must remain as one doesn't include taking over other countries by claiming the "One US Policy." Though, constitutionally...states can legally secede from the Union. And that's all I'll say there before a can opens and worms fly out everywhere.

Actually, Yes. This was subtle propaganda, wrapped up in a story and thus more easily ignored and forgiven. ...But, there's less subtle propaganda out there too that I've seen. And that's all I'll say before a can opens and worms fly out everywhere.

Back to the movie at hand. Decent enough story, great cinematography, loved the score.
