“I not allowed to see Kimuda. She study high in tower. She smart, important kobold! Only Engir allowed to disturb.” He looked confused at the name Mached Pachelan. “Kimuda say we not bother road. Not bring smooth skins to tower. They not supposed to know Chillscale there.” He looked around at his fellow captives. They weren’t exactly in a position to refuse. He shrugged. “If you no kill, I bring.”

"Enlightened self interest, how often I come across you!" Theremin says in a brief moment of extrovertd reflection. "I believe we can strike a deal. We will not kill you, and you have to swear that you will not harm us. Not now, and not in the future. And to make sure that you stay true to your word, I will cast a spell that will bind you to our bargain. You see, my spell put you to sleep, and I can do much, much more." Theremin goes from kobold to kobold, makes some non-sensical gestures and incantations, with a few castings of minor illusions for strange arcane sounding sounds, laughs, and monster noises. He asks everyone of them individually, in a solemn manner "If we do not kill you now, do you agree to guide us safely to Kimuda in the tower, without killing us when you get a chance, now and in the future?"

OOC: for the dummy ritual: deception [roll0], second roll if advantage applies: [roll1] because they are tied and captive

Theremin will inspect each Kobold to see if they are lying. He will also cast vicious mockery (for 1d4 psychic damage) if any of them hesitates to stike the "arcane" bargain.

The kobolds cringe as Theremin makes his elaborate castings, each agreeing with profound abject prostrations that they will not harm him or his friends.

As Mindra searches the area, it seems that the kobolds are telling the truth. The wet grass is matted down along the roadside, like they had just come from the direction of where the heroes were told the tower lay overlooking the road. The area didn’t seem of any particular value or commonly used. It looked like the attack may have been more opportunistic.

"Everything seems to check out," Mindra reports as she returns to the group. She will relay what she found and then prepare to move out.

OOC: Once again Mindra will take point. As we seem to be getting nearer, she will focus on stealth and perception. Hoping to see any threat before it sees her.

Stealth and Perception rolls: 1D20+8 = [12]+8 = 20
1D20+8 = [1]+8 = 9

Well crap. She is pretty sneaky, but she apparently is once again distracted. Maybe she is still preoccupied by the unexpected relationship with the good sergeant?

Round 0

With five disarmed kobolds, the party continued their travel. The kobolds seemed nervous about using the road, so the party stuck to the tall grass a few dozen feet off while following the Oakenmire Road. After an hour, the tall, dilapidated tower rose in the distance from hills to the north of the road.

[sblock=Perception DC 10]The tower is battered but still standing. A 30’ wall stands around the tower, broken through and rubble-filled in places, battered and leaning but still standing in others. A track from the road leads up to the broken, leaning gates of the wall.[/sblock]

[sblock=Perception DC 12]On the north side of the road, shoved into a runoff gulch in a hill, is a wagon.[/sblock]

[sblock=Perception DC 15]Great timbers, soft with age and rot, lie scattered in the tall grasses south of the road. Odd piles of large stones lie here and there. A large, metal arrow bigger than a man lies rusting in the black soil. These are the remains of siege equipment left abandoned and decaying for decades.[/sblock]
