Owyn and Theremin realize that if these people came here during the civil war, they likely don’t know about the peace that was signed twenty-eight years ago and the new normal in the former empire, now three different nations. It is also apparent that there are very few left who actually fought in the war. Most seem to have been born here in the Shadowfell.

"Perhaps it would ease your mind to learn that Essess has won its independence and controls the south. As Helveki controls the north. And while I won't pretend that there isn't still mistrust and resentment between the 3 nations, there is no longer open hostilities.

"That is why a group such as ourselves, seeking to escape the the poisonous politics of our homelands and live on our own terms, have been able to form. Finding refuge in Essess, a land built on the ideals of freedom, is the ideal choice for us."

Salor Dawnwhisper, the aged elf, studied Mindra when she stated the war was over and peace had come. “How is this possible?” he wondered. “Can it be true? We had despaired of winning our freedom. Please, tell me more. You must join me for supper, and you may stay safe here in the village for the night,” the elf said, motioning to the young people that had brought the adventurers to him. “We will have what food and drink this cursed land provides,” he said. “And you may ask me what questions you wish.”

Owyn barely remembered the story of the war which his father and grandfather had fought in. They'd both earned some distinction for themselves. But in the end, the subject was like any other acedemia to him, so he decided to simply stay quiet as anything he said seemed to upset the elf. And this conversation seemed to be taking a turn for the positive.

"Thank you for your generous offer," Mindra says with a smile. "We would be happy to join you for supper, and a place to rest would be wonderful. Our trip to this place has not been uneventful."

OOC: Mindra follows Salor to wherever the meal is being served. She will also pull out some of her rations to share with her hosts. Rations might not be the best food, but it might at least offer a welcome change from what they are able to get from the "cursed land". She will also start filling in the history that they have missed since they left the material plane.

Which apparently Mindra is horrible at! LOL

So if anyone else is able to correct her horrible history lesson and take over the story telling she would be happy to let them do so. Mindra will freely admit she is rubbish in history. She is being honest at this point and will try to refrain from just making stuff up, which would be her first impulse if someone else doesn't want to take over.

Also want to apologize for being absent for so long. I will be checking back more often again.

The meal consisted heavily of various fungi. There was some kind of meat that wasn’t too bad, though it had a bit of an aftertaste for those not used to it, and a few leafy vegetables of some sort, a bit like some kind of dark purple spinach. Nothing of it was particularly flavorful. Mindra’s shared rations went over better. Salor and the other natives at the table were exceedingly grateful for food from the prime world, even if it was just dried meats, dried fruits, and nuts.

Salor listened intently to Mindra’s recounting of the history, but it was clear he was confused in trying to follow. “So Essus and Helveki are free, and Paladine has returned?” he asked in awe. The younger ones at the table, however, just looked confused.

After dinner, the party was shown to a hut where they could sleep for what passed as night here in the Shadowfell, though it was hard to tell, as the light only dimmed slightly in this not so bright world, but it seemed the village was settling down.

OOC: You have time for a long rest. You don’t necessarily need to set watches since you are in the village, but you may if you like. Or you may do anything you like during the night. Otherwise you can get in a long rest and open up again with the next morning, whatever you would like to do.
