Advanced Space Crusade was a game involving Tyranids and Space Marine Scouts. Never played it, though.

It comes complete with miniature playing pieces and 10 battle scenarios that players construct terrain with. Cards govern the progress of the game as you strategize to beat your enemy. Rolling the attack and armor dice lets you move about the board. Friends can bring their own armies for endless variations.

Though add ons were created for Heroquest, the first two merely adding new board sections to cover existing onws and repeating a subset of the miniatures from the base game. The later add ons added new figures, including some nifty plastic ogres. These latter sets go for a discouragingly high price on E-Bay.

Actually, the first two contained new board sections, scenarios and minis. They were called Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord respectively. Incidentally, when Gremlin Interactive (later assimilated by Infogrammes) adapted HeroQuest to the PC, these expansions were incorporated into the release.

Collectable, with a modular board, eh?

It's not collectible in the sense that there are rare/uncommon/common minis, or that you buy randomized boosters, etc. I'd say expandable is more accurate -- you can buy other units, but they're non-random and you can see exactly what you're getting before you buy it.

If it'd been collectible, as neat as the components of the boxed set are, I'd have been unlikely to pick it up.
