Heroscape?

Ohmigawrsh, that dinosaur is the spitting image of my char's current mount. Can't make out much of the rider, though. Where did you find these? Oh ick. Wal-mart.

I picked up a set at Toys 'R Us around Chrismas time because it was on sale (about $30). My FLGS has it, too. I picked up one of the expansions there (for $15).

We own this in my house. The first "skirmish" suggested seems very one-sided, make sure your kid, or inexperienced opponent, gets the obviously better team.

I have yet to see the expansion sets. If you love games, it's worth $39.99, otherwise I'd wait until I can find it for $10 less (as I've seen it around town a few times here). I don't agree that the paint jobs are a lot better than the D&D minis, but that's a personal thing. I think the terrain is great, and if I find a good deal on another game, I'll buy it for more terrain.

I think the game is slightly easier to learn than D&D skirmish, and there are certainly less minis to get confused over. Also, most of the pre-made scenarios have goals other than killing all of your opponents figures, which is nice.

All in all, I'd buy this again, and may buy more, even though we really play D&D skirmish here mostly (next fall is the time I begin teaching my boys D&D).

Heroscape intrigues me, but is terribly, terribly expensive around here.

I must check out the discount stores, but from MilSims, it retails for aus$99 (about us$75), which makes D&D Miniatures still the much, much better buy. (MilSims has Aberration packs at aus$20 each...)

I wish the bases for HeroScape were 1 inch, though.

Cheers!

I have yet to actually play the rules just yet (too busy finishing up the latest adventure for that), but we did use the terrain hexes for a duel the other day, and it makes for an incredible battlemat. As mentioned above, just translate each tile into a 5' square and you're set.

Best $50 someone else ever spent.

This game is from the same company (and apparently the same "product line"?) as Battle Ball.

Battle Ball came out a couple of years ago and retailed for about $30. I was patient. A few months ago, I picked up a Battle Ball set for $5.

Battle Ball is like a more Sci-Fi version of GW's Blood Bowl. So far, I have been using the futuristic plastic footbal players for Cyborgs in my D20 Future games, among other things. They are very close to 28mm scale and you get a lot of them in the boxed set.

And so I am feeling patient again. By this time next year, I'm betting we'll see Heroscape for a drastically reduced price.

I played Heroscape at a RPG con in December. I liked it so much, both as a game and for its components, that I bought it when I was in NY in January (it costs the equivalent of US$75 where I am but only $40 + tax at Toys R Us in NY).

I've since bought two expansion packs, Grut Orcs and Heroes of Bleakwoode, and an extra Mimring dragon with card on Ebay or through Ebay sellers.

I have the D&D minis game as well. The minis are about equal standard but the Heroscape game is easier and more fun.

I hope they bring out more fantasy-themed expansions for Heroscape as that is my favourite genre. I have a feeling that an elven expansion is on the horizon.

It's possible but I wouldn't bet on it. I've spoken to other gamers, people at Hasbro and folks at Toys R Us about this game. Apparently, it's been a very good seller, so much so that the initial production of expansion sets sold out and the ones that are generally available now, while exactly the same, are second runs. Games this popular tend not to get heavily discounted. I see deep price cuts only if sales bomb - which seems unlikely. YMMV ;)

And my daughter didn't want to play with anything but the orcs on the table this morning. So, we learned a new word today, 'orc'. :)

ah kids- my son learned Hill Giant today. :D

As for the game- never heard of it but it sounds neat enough.

I got my second copy for $20 at the bolingbrook walmart. I see $30 IRL one and a while

I do think a better cover could have been chosen, sales wise. The skull borg looks cool enough, but is sinister looking [not always the best way to market something a parent would buy for the child.]

I am still looking for the expansions in my area. :uhoh: i was just going to hunt the stats down and use my own minis but a few of the figs look pretty cool.

I can recommend a seller in Texas. He's fast and friendly and his prices aren't too bad. He sells through Ebay and directly. He has the expansion sets as well as extras from breaking up main sets. He also sells D&D/RPG stuff but I haven't ordered any of that from him yet. If you want his details, please drop me an e-mail with "Heroscape" in the subject line at afsimkin@hotmail.com .

;)
