Hexblade 10/AotS 10

I need help making a character that will start out as a hexblade and will then become an Acolyte of the Skin. I am set on these levels and would not really be willing to change them.

If anyone can help me with things like race choice or starting stats. I am kinda a newb at D&D and would need some help in all the departments. He starts out at level three.

It is in the Complete Arcane I believe. AotS is a prestige class that requires

5th caster level, Knowledge (planes) 6, non-good alignment, and a ritual.

The point of the class is that you bind a demon's flesh to your own. you gain some AC and a few abilities. People think it is gimped because it halves spell level gains.

the only character that people recommend taking it on are hexblades and warlocks but I'm not very good at making hexblades.

I like the eye lasers. Also being an Outsider is cool. I mostly like the idea behind it but i feel it is decently functional that will help my char.

The AC Con and Cha will help my Hexblade levels and will make him a better fighter.

You might want to look at http://community.wizards.com/go/thr..._about_Hex_Blades?post_id=332210466#332210466 if your DM is permissive. Mike Mearls himself posted the additions, so the designers know that the hexblade is a bit gimped.

I recommend looking at http://dictummortuum.blogspot.com/2011/08/hexblades-handbook.html for more information so that you can get a sense of where you want to go with the character.

That said, why do you want to go into Acolyte of the Skin? As far as features go it's not exactly stellar, and that's ignoring the lost caster levels. The eye lasers are only usable once per day. Something very similar can be done more often with the Ocular Spell feat.

If you want to be an outsider then Neraphim from the Planar Handbook is an outsider from level 1 instead of at 20.

Unless you know you'll be spending a significant amount of time playing at or above level 20, that build won't meet your wants of getting the outsider type. There are native outsiders like Aasimar and Tieflings, however.

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1281.0 has a rather large list of +0 LA races, though some DMs might not agree with the methods of getting to them. For instance, in Dragon 297 they introduced other planetouched races named Axani (for Lawful outsider heritage) and Cansin (for Chaotic heritage), though they have +1 LA. Player's Guide to Faerun then goes on to say that the +1 LA native outsiders can be made +0 by changing their type to humanoid.

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=342.0 has lists of races with racial HD, various LA, etc.

If you really want to play an outsider, ask about using the Level Adjustment Buyoff rules. Aasimar would be the best bet (despite the Good/Celestial heritage) for a hexblade due to the Charisma bonus. You can play the character as disillusioned with the whole "Good vs Evil" thing. There may also be the possibility of using Savage Progression to get the race and then just not taking the second level of the race since the article explicitly says the player doesn't need to.

If you really want to play a Drow then keep in mind the LA will hurt your overall effectiveness unless you can buy it off. That Savage Progression article also has Drow, but you won't get the Charisma bonus unless you went into the 2nd level progression which isn't exactly something you want to do in most cases unless you can buy off the LA.

After looking things up and searching about a bit I think I will go with a pure Hexblade.

I will probably choose an outsider race but I'm not sure what I should pick from that list.

I would like to have no LA and I want to be Chaotic Neutral.

Unless your DM will allow Dragon Mag for the Cansin and then allows either LA buyoff or using a homebrew savage progression for it, your best bet seems to be the savage progression for Aasimar since Tiefling has a charisma penalty. This is assuming you'd still prefer a native outsider.

If it's acceptable to have a non-native outsider then the only other +0 LA outsiders are the Glimmerfolk and Neraphim, and the Glimmerfolk is from Dragon Magazine so it's not likely you'll get to use it due to the source. Neraphim is from the Planar Handbook and would fit a Hexblade fairly well, especially as Chaotic Neutral.
