Hey DM's, I have research question...

Winterthorn

Monster Manager
One of my players has asked me is there exists any material for D&D regarding ablative effects on armor. More specifically, is there any effect through, spell, feat, or other special means that slowly wears down a target's AC with each successful hit?

To elaborate, as a DM, I am introducing the concept of levelled weapons, based on Dragon #289, and I would like to write up a weapon enchantment that would award the special ability to "wear down" an opponent's AC derived from armor worn. I figure if there is a feat, spell, or some such effect published somewhere, that would help me immensely (game balance-wise).

Of course the answer may be staring at me in the face, but help from my esteemed colleagues here at ENWorld would be appreciated nonetheless. Thanx! :)

There's some special ability of an OA clan PrC called Moving the Shadows that lets them ignore some of the defender's AC from armor...I think. And a feat called Chink in the Armor in Song n Silence does something similar. However, I can't think of anything that slowly breaks down armor...except for a lot of Rusting Grasps...

I don't know of any "wearing down" rules, other than the "attack an object" rules which usually aren't applied to armor.

I would be extremely hesitant to apply them to magical armors. Magical stuff is supposed to be pretty nigh indestructible. Magical weapons, for example, simply cannot be broken by normal use. They can only be sundered by a weapon of higher (maybe equal?) enchantment bonus.
