yeah, but none of them ever post. Either that, or they never post in Fight Club, Met, General, Rules, House, Plots/Places, d20 system games, or In Character. :(

Welcome! And glad to have you; you too, Queenie!

Lots of other women here; Madriel, KidCthulhu, Sialia, Iron Chef BBQ, Malessa, Mythago, Jobu, Balsamic Dragon, and a whole mess more.

Thanks for the welcome!

I am a bit overwhelmed by the boards right now but I'm getting the hang of it :)

And I hope to see some more women around too!

Welcome to the boards!

For sorcerors/sorceresses I find it best to work from a theme. This could be something like an element (fire sorceress, ice, sonic, etc), a seductress/manipulator (Charm person, suggestion, dominate, etc), a master of travel (expeditious retreat, levitate, fly, teleport, plane shift, etc), etc.

Once you have figured out what theme you want, if any, magic item selection is almost half done already.

You are going to want some basics like a weapon (magic or mundane), defensive items like Bracers of Armour, Ring of Protection, etc, and some way of healing yourself--your best bet would be a couple Potions of Cure Moderate Wounds. This will increase your chances of survival, and gives you an emergency way of healing your cleric if he/she falls in combat.

Next, I'd focus on ways of furthering your theme. Maybe some wands of fireball, or rings of mind shielding if you are the persuasive/manipulator type, or a Cape of the Montebank if you like flashy travel.

If your DM will allow it, I'd try to customize your items. I don't mean in terms of game effects, I mean in terms of appearance or ways in which they work. Fire or swirling gas motifs might be a nice touch for some elemental types, or objects made all out of crystal or wood, etc. Something that adds a little more dinstinctiveness to your character. Or, if you are playing a sneaky type, maybe the opposite is in order--have all your magic items appear to be nondescript mundane items and dress in subdued colours and patterns.

You have the advantage of working your magic items around your concept rather than a hodge-podge of uncovered/stolen/looted items gained over the course of an adventuring career. Take advantage of it and have fun with it!

It's always nice to see new members--have fun playing and hopefully we'll see you around some more!

If no one's mentioned it yet, there are some neat things on the boards you should take a look at. First, check out the Story Hour forum. It's full of accounts of other peoples' campaigns. Piractecat's and Wulf's are a must. Be forewarned, though. It is very addictive--once you starting reading one, it all snowballs from there. Just ask Horatio!

The Art forum is neat--maybe ask Kip the Bold for a drawing of your character!

The In Character forum has online games people are currently playing. I'm in two games--it really is a fun experience.

Have fun!

Welcome to the boards!!

Here is some advice.

First, learn about your characters. Try to determine some strategies as to how they will respond to some situations. This will help with such things as spell selection and might give you a few ideas of how to role play your character in different situations.
It always helps to have a feel for how a character will respond. (There is a big difference between role playing and roll playing.)

Magic items. I would focus a lot on protection items as you are a new player. Rings of protection, bracers of armor, amulets of natural armor are useful. So are any devices that improve your saving throws, or increase your ability to cast spells. So are any items, such as boots of speed, which can make it easier to escape a bad situation.

Also remember that a familiar can be a valuable asset. It can deliver touch spells for your character.

You may also want to try running your lower level characters more often to get a feel for the rules. It is a little hard learning a new game with a 10th level character.

Finally, don't be afraid to ask for advice. The last I checked, no one here had all the answers. Especially me.

Items to pick up?

Spend the relatively few gp required to get a bracelet of friends. It is FAR more useful than you would expect.

WHOA!! Never thought so many people would answer my thread! (feels all warm and fuzzy inside) Thanx soooooo much for all the advice on my character.
