Hey, I'm new!

10th level is not an easy place to start playing!

You will have may unintuitive powers at your disposal (teleporation and flight ranking Most Useful and Hardest to Balance). You will face foes who are truely powerful (dragons and demons).

Are you joining a group of experienced gamers, or starting in a new group of inexperienced gamers? If the former, go have fun -- your fellow gamers will show you the ropes. If the latter, you might consider starting the group at lower level (say, 2 or 3) until you all have more experience with the mechanics.

Anyway, some equipment to consider:

Heavy Crossbow +1 Holy: 18,900 GP. Each bolt does 1d8+3+2d6 to Evil creatures. Very nice when your magic isn't effective.

Bracers of Armor +3: 9,000 GP. Note, though, that this won't stack with the spell Mage Armor. In my opinion, the spell is better.

Cloak of Charisma +4: 16,000 GP. Gives you a couple more spells and makes your spells harder to resist.

Ring of Protection +2: 8,000 GP.

Heward's Handy Haversack: 2,000 GP. Better than a Bag of Holding, since you get exactly what you want without searching.

Glove of Storing: 2,200 GP. A very nice place to keep your crossbow ;)

Robe of Useful Items: 7,000 GP. Nice if you're going to come up against unexpected non-combat situations.

Enjoy D&D!

Hmmm. Depends on the campaign. But a reasonably good generic 10th level sorceror shopping list might look like this;

Ring of Protection +3 (18,000)
+2 returning throwing dagger (18,302)
Cloak of Charisma +2 (4,000)
Boots of Speed (8,000)
... and keep the rest for "cigarette money" (because you never know when a few gold pieces might come in handy)

The idea with the list is to enhance the abilities you already have rather than give you new ones. This is because you're kinda new and while this game isn't hard, it is very big. There's a lot of stupid stuff to keep in mind all at once.

Also, I'm staying away from potions, wands, and other "expendable" magic items because there's a temptation to use them up all at once or horde them for a future time that may never come. Why stress over that?

edit: Nifft also has a pretty darn good list. I like the idea of the Haversack. That way you won't have to worry about how much all your stuff weighs.

Hmmm, you like Scarred Lands which is okay, so you do seem to have some taste. As for the wealth part, well, I don't believe so. At least not yet. :D

I'm working on it Crothy. :)

Hey, I've got a question. How come there are no women?! Am I the only one here?

Ho there Enchantress! Sorry I didn't greet you earlier, but I was real busy today, and didn't even get online until after dinner. There are several of us women around here. Other than me, there's Dragongirl, Ashtal, Edena of Neith, Snoweel, and, um, several more that I can't think of at the moment.

As for what items you should buy, I agree with the cloak of charisma, bag of holding, and various items of protection. The other recommendations have been cool too, but you definately want to focus first on items that will make you more powerful or keep you alive. Since your character probably isn't that strong, the bag of holding or Hewards Handy Haversack would also be good investments.

Hi.

That's a lot of money. Be a sensible girl and invest some at your locale temple so that get raised should you and your group go and get yourself killed. You never know what could happen.

Maybe make an arrangement so that you will come and check up at the once every year. If you don't they'll cast a True Ressurection (Name of the spell).

(Note: I can't remember how much that spell costs. I think the idea is good never the less :))

Hi Enchantress..

I figured I would stand up for the women on these boards just to prove we are here.

I haven't been playing that long either so I'm not going to give you any info on stuff to buy. I'll leave the suggestions to those MUCH more knowledgeable than myself.

Actually, I'm going to steal some of your ideas for my sorcereress!

Good Luck!

Hey, welcome Enchantress!

And for the record, Buttercup, I believe Edena of Neith is a male. But I could be wrong; haven't met him/her.
