High to-hit ability stat at the cost of future feats?

I am having troubles coming to a final stat array for my dragonborn cleric. It's pretty much coming down to an 18 in STR and a 12 in CON or a 16 in STR and a 14 in CON (I want him to be in melee. Here's the two arrays in full...

STR: 18
CON: 12
DEX: 10
INT: 8
WIS: 16
CHA: 14

OR

STR: 16
CON: 14
DEX: 11 (or 10)
INT: 8
WIS: 16
CHA: 14 (or 15)

Now I want to be a melee cleric, but I need the WIS for healing my party and I would like to use WIS base cleric powers as well, I don't think 16 is that bad for WIS. I am not sure about STR though. I look at a lot of the feats (especially for armour) and it's all CON and DEX. I would want a high CON because of all boosts to dragonborn special abilities.

I like the 16 STR, but will this come at the cost of my melee effectiveness, or can I live without the CON based feats? DEX is definately a no go though... reflex saves be damned!

spanks!

How about a 17 strength? You just have to be patient till level 4 to get the bonus for your Strength and Constitution. After that, you can start hitting Wisdom and Strength. At level 11, you'll also get a nicer bonus to Charisma.

STR: 17
CON: 13
DEX: 10
INT: 8
WIS: 16
CHA: 15

Strictly speaking, this is worse than both your options, but becomes better than both your options at 4th level.

I recently built one (but have yet to play it) and I personally like this array:

STR 16 (+2 racial)=19
CON 15

DEX 10
INT 8

WIS 13
CHA 13 (+2 racial) = 15

The reason being that I wanted a 15 con to meet the feet requirements for Plate armor and then armor specialization feets down the road. I don't think Charisma is very important at all though if you're focusing on the STR skills, I would consider dropping Cha from base 13 to base 11, then upping Wisdom from 13 to 14.

I should also note, in the long run I multiclassed with fighter on my build and used a Maul taking advantage of some of the high con based powers.

Get your attack stat as high as possible - I wouldn't go below 18 STR for a dragonborn battle cleric. Also, you're paying 2 points per point for those last two points of Wisdom...put them in Con and Dex instead, and you'll be better off.

Try this instead:
Str 18 (9 pts)
Con 13 (3 pts)
Dex 13 (3 pts)
Int 8 (0 pts)
Wis 14 (5 pts)
Cha 14 (2 pts)

You start out meeting the qualifications for any feat that requires a 13+ stat (except Int-based feats, of course), and will get to 15's in those stats by epic tier without a single stat bump. You can bump Strength and Wisdom at every stat boost, and still be competitive.

If you want to use Wis powers, I'd recommend a 16/16/12/12/10/8 stat distribution. Plunk the 16's into Strength and Wisdom, put a 12 into Cha and Con, and distribute the rest as you see fit. At every ability increase, pump Strength and Wisdom. Otherwise, you'll never be able to hit anything with your Wisdom powers at higher levels.

I went:
Str 18
Con 16
Dex 8
INT 11
WIS 12
CHA 13

The reasoning behind this was +3 to dragon breath damage, which I use every encounter so far and plan on upgrading at some point. But so far the lack of the extra 1 or 2 points per heal doesn't appear to hurt the group. The +4 to attack using the at-will power, extra surge healing value and surges a day seem to be working well.

Plus, I like leaving some abilities at odd numbers because they only take four levels to gain extra mods.
