Thanks for all the help, guys. Somebody needs to put out a nice India d20 supplement. The more I read about the land and its history the more fascinating it becomes.

Does anybody have anything they've written for their own personal use? Does anybody care to share it?

I couldn't agree with you more that a decent India sourcebook would be extremely good.. the problem is based on what I've seen of D20 "china" sourcebooks (which usually end up being a mindless mix of chinese kung-fu stereotypes, Japanese stuff added in, and lots of ninjas and katanas), whatever came out for India would likely be pretty apalling.

Hell, they can barely get Rome right.

I think for some reason, only GURPS can do historical sourcebooks well. Luckily, GURPS sourcebooks are VERY VERY low on rules and high on info, so they are easily portable...

well, the only real D&D indian supplements i've seen were the old ravenloft material on Sri Raji, the Green Ronin book Mindshadows, and the chunks in OA that were indian inspired, and none of them impressed me at all. Since i first learned to roleplay, i've always wanted to assume the role of Krishna smiting demons, or Hanuman with his giant mace. I guess i'm just gonna have to write it myself =)

and as for the sin and such, yes, there is the concept of Paap, which is essentially sin/taboo, and people do prayers or go on pilgrimages to redeem themselves (yatris). Upon an evening of thinking about it, Bhagat/Bhakta is definately a good term for the concept. I should have realised it sooner; i only have the word Bhakti tattooed on my forearm =)

The only D&D product I know of (and have used) that comes close to India-related is the OD&D adventure HWA3 Nightstorm by Allen Varney. In this adventure, the party spends a significant amount of time in a land called Shahjapur that is clearly India-inspired. A large portion of the module is devoted to describing it, so it's like a minisupplement along with the adventure. Note the above link is just from a site I found with a description of the module.

While not necesarily meant to be historically thorough, but only influence, Mystara/Known World had Sindh and Jaibul, which were in the Champions of Mystara boxed set. Mystara also had the Hollow World adventure Nightstorm, part three of the Blood Brethern trilogy. It takes place in an India analog country, like Sindh.

It's as historically accurate as Northern Reaches accurately depicts Norse culture. Close, evocative, and high-magical.

We do have WotC's Mahasarpa campaign setting using the 3e Oriental Adventures.

blind mendicants- andh sanyassi (note that this is a singular)

Oh, don't be silly. Everyone knows that just as the singular of ninjae is ninja, the singular of andh sanyassae is andh sanyassa.

Well, see, speaking of sin, a Vaishnava would claim you've committed a number of sinful practices there. The playing of games being one of them (games are part of Maya, and distract from the time we can spend in devotion to Lord Sri Krshna), but the idea of "taking on the role of Krishna or Hanuman" is also dangerously presumptive, because it suggests you could take the place of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Either that or you're one of those heretics that believes that actual spiritual union with Lord Sri Krshna is possible, whereas the truth is that the supreme reward of a true devotee is eternal devotion in the presence of Lord Sri Krshna's grace in his divine realm.

You, sir, are clearly doomed to reincarnate as a newt. ;)

(definitely not a vaishnava)

man, those are more ISKON beliefs, and not just run of the mill vaishnavas, who would point out that even Krishna played games and took on roles and such =)

That's a common misconception - ninja though is actually a collective plural, the singular being ninjum.
Incorrect: "My ninja uses his nunchucks with the Buddha death strike feat to chop off your guy's wiener."
Correct: "My ninjum uses his nunchucks with the Buddha death strike feat to chop off your guy's wiener."

A D20 Mythic India would be most excellent.

I have been screaming for that since D20 came out. That and D20 Mythic China ( *NOT* Japanese china with ninja and samurai ). The closest on that I have come is swashbucking adventure's Cathay.

Get a moving talinthas. You've already sold one book to me!
