Hints about Complete Arcane?

Does anyone else think that the flavor of the four elements is not well handled by a single PrC? And the energy matchups in T&B's Elemental Savant don't make a lot of sense? (Acid/Earth? Huh?)

I have been waiting for a good elemental mage for a while. The one that WOTC did just does not fit the bill.

PrC? I've renamed the wu-jen elementalist, and there it goes! :p
Although to be fair, I've adapted a little bit, and notably the spells...

I've solved this by increasing a bit the list of the elements. It features Acid, Air, Cold, Darkness, Earth, Electricity, Fire, Force, Light, Magic, Negative Energy, Positive Energy, Sonic, Water... And others. There's damage type, energons, and elementals for each! (For example, a lantern archon's light ray deal Light damage. Very few creatures have Light resistance, and some, like a shadow demon, have vulnerability to it.)

Elemental represent matter, and energons represent energy. But matter and energy are the same thing.

I don't remember the elemental savant particulars, but a single PrC for such can be done as long as it is done like the highly customizable PrCs (actually, I'm thinking the Arcana Unearthed witch manifestations make a good example):

Even levels, 5 cumulative points of energy resistance until 10th level grant immunity.
Odd levels, talent (like high arcana in arch mage): There are 5-7 talents for each of the elements, some of which have level requirement. Or do it with elemental tables setup like the loremaster ability list. Some of the abilities might appear on more than one list, just with the element substituted. For example, the apotheosis ability would be on each list but would turn the wizard into a different element type depending on their specialty. (And as an entry in the list, not all elementalists would have to turn into elementals at level 10 if they didn't want to.)

I'd also have different requirements by element type. But that's me.

I thought it was the most bland and flavourless class imaginable, pretty much based around getting a PC to "elemental type" rather than their basic type by 10th level.

For a fire elementalist your fire resistance is pants compared to the acolyte of the skin, and this goes for other aspects too.

Regarding the basic point though - the Eldeen Ranger class in Eberron is a great example of a single prestige class which can have distinctly different benefits depending upon the subclassification chosen... a model which would probably work very well for an elementalist PrC.

Cheers

The front page no longer offers links to upcoming WotC project pages on THIS site, and their accompanying bits of news, hints, etc., and when the pages still exist, they've got little to no news.

Yeah, I miss the scoop pages. I bet they save a lot of wear and tear on that server-intensive Search function too. Whatever happened to'em?
