I'll bite. Prior editions sucked.
I had not previously understood that you spoke for WotC.
Since you do, would you explain to me why it is that you made a game that sucked so bad and why I should trust you to do any better this time? After all, you spent years telling me how great 3E was. Shouldn't I be very cautious believing you now?

There would certainly be a lot less negative feeling toward 4e if it wouldn't seem to be one of the selling points of 4e to constantly point out how much all prior D&D sucks

I call bull:):):):):). Give us a direct quote that directly comes from a designer/developer saying "Previous editions suck." as opposed to the real things they've been saying "Previous editions have had problems."

Well, unless the new OGL will be considerably more restrictive than the old one (and it doesn't look like it), when most D&D players will move on to 4E (and they will) the third party publishers will move with them. After all, that's where the money is - and there is little enough money in the gaming industry as it is.

I think so too. Many of the "I'm not switching" people will switch. I'm sure there will be those who'll say I'm wrong...but for various reason people will make the jump over. There will be the few that don't...however the phrase "never say never" didn't come about for nothing

I see some of the same things happening, sure, but some of the people have switched sides. ;)

Honestly, I feel bad that so many people feel that 4E is going to hurt their gaming experience. On the (very) bright side, there is enough 3.x material out there to keep people playing for many, many years. So at least it won't be keeping anyone from playing.

3.x killed my DnD game, though. My players were enthusiastic but quickly got tired of it by the time they reached level 14 or so. The system had many, many good points but it sucked the life away from my group. We moved on, sampled other systems, settled on a modified d20 Modern game for a while ... and then stopped.

With 4E everyone is very excited. I didn't know a new version was on the way buy my players called me to let me know and it sounds great to me so far. Streamlined less-bulky rules with a combat system that proves to be the most entertaining yet. Lots of good things. I don't like the miniatures, but it seems that using them is optional so that's fine.

So, I feel bad for those who aren't liking the new game but I can't stop being ecstatic that I'll be able to game again. Hopefully things work out for everyone. :)

So do you use false standards frequently, or just on special occasions like this one? Nobody claimed that something so stupid as a direct quote of that nature exists.

But if you can't see where the repeated and very emphatic statements that "previous editions had problems" has made their point really clear, then I'd suggest that your reading comprehension has "had problems".

Who else finds this amusing?
A little amusing. A lot more annoying.

They all can rant all they want. WotC already greenlighted the 4e project and is underway. Better to vote with your wallet than on the internet.

You said "Amen" in response to someone claiming that "There would certainly be a lot less negative feeling toward 4e if it wouldn't seem to be one of the selling points of 4e to constantly point out how much all prior D&D sucks"

So, you (and the guy you're agreeing with) are stating that the marketing that Wizards is doing is built upon them saying how much all prior editions of D&D suck. Now, if this is true, then provide some evidence, otherwise it smells suspiciously like it came from your ass.

But if you can't see where the repeated and very emphatic statements that "previous editions had problems" has made their point really clear, then I'd suggest that your reading comprehension has "had problems".

I think the guy that's trying to frame someone's marketing in a completely untruthful fashion has the reading comprehension issues, along with anyone that agrees with him.
