Cleric (level × 5) + 7 + Constitution score
Fighter (level × 6) + 9 + Constitution score
Paladin (level × 6) + 9 + Constitution score
Ranger (level × 5) + 7 + Constitution score
Rogue (level × 5) + 7 + Constitution score
Warlock (level × 5) + 7 + Constitution score
Warlord (level × 5) + 7 + Constitution score
Wizard (level × 4) + 6 + Constitution score

This does not work with our first level pregens.

The wizard has 20 Hp's at 1st level but according to this he shlould have much less (10+con mod). What am I missing here?

Constitution score, not mod.

They're going to have an entire page in the PHB which has nothing but "add consitution score to hps" in huge letters aren't they?

(I don't mean to to pick on the OP. The fact that it's such a common mistake puts you in good company)

Yep, it is. Con Modifier is only applied to Fortitude Defense, if higher than Strenght Modifier. It might be used for other skill checks too. But for your hitpoints, it's the constitution score itself.

I made this mistake too, and I was never very heavily invested in 3.0 or 3.5 beyond NWN. But I did play AD&D and 2nd edition quite a bit. So, even having been away for a little while, it is hard to deprogram some of those basic assumptions about how D&D works.

I'm kind of worried about the fact that I didn't make that same mistake first time I saw it.

Clearly I'm not as heavily invested in 3e as I oughtta be ;)
