Hit pts. for level adj. races.....

Here's a dumb question:

Do level adjusted characters have hit die for their "level adjustment"? Ie. - if a tiefling character starts with 1,000 XP (1st level class), does he get HP for ONLY the class, or does he get HP for the class AND the level adjustment?

I hope this is clear.......

(Well, to make it clear I'll have to ask if it's per the FRCS ECL rules, which I suppose it is. The latest Dragon articles have been a bit varied. ;))

The the answer is: No, the character only gets hit points for his or her class levels.

(Unless, and I think this is true for all versions of ECL or LA, the race originally has more than one hit die. In that case you add those to the hit points gained by class.)

I'll second that, Henrix.

You never get HD for ECL/LA. This is only a system to balance the PCs if you play a more powerful race than the core races in the PH.

If this race, however, normally starts with more than one HD, then you do get those HD plus your class HD. You max out the first racial/monster HD and roll the remaining HD, including your first class HD. For example, if you are playing a bugbear barbarian 1 with a 16 con, you have 3d8+9 plus 1d12+3 hit points. The first d8 for the bugbear HD is maxed, the others are rolled.

That's kinda what I thought. Thank you both very much. The example definitely makes it clearer.
