Whoa.. hilts are very cool, and very powerful. These can be lots of fun, but I can see certain players abusing them by adding a hodge podge collection of toys. So long as they are always themed its a lot of fun though, and no more powerful than many magic items. I like the XP cost a lot. Nice system.

Yes, loads of fun to be had.

Powerful, yes, but rare as well. The Hilts open to Hilt Mages are going to be low-powered though.

But of course, I don't think Ravers are mentioned in those docs. Imagine, if you will, a living weapon...something with a soul and will of its own who is unable to manipulate the world around them without another being to link with. No imagine this weapon left alone in ancient ruins for thousands of years.

Some Hilts have gone insane. Their only goal is to destroy everything the Gods that created them, only to turn their backs on them, had made. These Hilts have an incredibly strong will from their madness, and will posess, not link with, any intelligent creature that touches them.

It is rare, but every so often a raver appears. He usually murders countless innocents before he is subdued.

This is the gamble. Sitting in your own mind, watching your body doing unspeakable things, and hearing the crazed cackles of a deranged and blasphemous creature in your head. Your soul is waht you risk when you touch an unproven Hilt.

Wow.

That is one of the things I wish more people did in DnD. That is wonderful. I have had similar themes, but this is great. Too bad I can't just pop that on my players in my IK game, it needs some build up, but it woud be a lot of fun.

That is some great stuff. [/fawning]

ok, those ravers remind me of "daisy" Doc Holidays gun from falkensteins version of Doc Holiday. He is a spellslinger.

Spellslinger in falken stein are mages who can channel their magic into fast, blast spells(otherwise imposible in falkenstein)

A spell gunis made by a long ritual in which the "normal "sixshoter is filled with molten metal and so formed into a spoell gun.

Doc Holidays gun is made by melting and pouring The sword of Cortez into a sixshooter. It is a cursed sword, so it ends up a cursed spellgun.

Doc Holiday has tuberculosis, When he kills someone with "daisy"he gets part of their life energy ( a bit like stormbringer) Nice and grim reason why a sick, and educated man will fight and kill in duels. cause he will feel better afterwards.

Actually, never mind. The races section is still really broken up and illegible. I'll list the PC races though:

Bri-Lonon (cat/dog ears/tails...offshoots of elves).

Dark Fey (Fey born of fire)

Dale Dwarf (Crafty-types, no arcane magic)

Errant Goblin (Selfish, but great merchants!)

Faerie (fmall, fluttery, and free-spirited...kinda flakey though)

Haddev (Sea faring flok w/ ram's horns. Wise)

Koh-Ranii (Long-legged offshoot of goblins, can run through trees, ancestor worshipers)

Serik (Tough, burly, mineral deposits instead of hair)

Plus all the PHB races. :D
