[hivemind] Jeez, you guys've been moving a bit slow, lately...

I, too, am alergic to metals and have a similar reaction, though not black, just raw-red. Can't wear rings, jewelry of any kind, actually, and watches have to be treated with a hypoallergenic technique...

Just post-exam relaxation with my gf :)

Oooh lovely. Very envious. I went to Prague for 4 days last weekend to meet up with an Aussie friend doing the great European trip. It all sounds so exotic and novelesque (made up a word b/c I can!) … to meet up with friends in Prague. I’m still struggling to get my mind around the idea that everything is so close over here. Going to Paris for the weekend sounds awesome.

EK: Yeah, I think the month is becoming more standard. I remember when my brother bought the ring he made disgusted comments about how it cost more than her car was worth. But my sister-in-law was thrilled and considering that she will be wearing it every day for (hopefully) the rest of her life … the cost per day’s wear is probably something like 2 cents a day.

Maldur: I can make all the comments I like this week as Atticus is currently snowed under at work and so has taken himself offline for a week.

Metal turns green when I wear it.

I’m fairly certain that Atticus knows that I think one of the least attractive reasons for getting engaged is the fact that I would then have to wear a rock of some description. I have weird skin (demonstrable proof that I’m an alien life form) which means that if metal of any description is in close contact (as per rings or watches) with my skin for more than a few hours, my skin turns a lovely shade of black.

you are turning away from "never ever ever. we single hivers must resist this epidemic".

What gives?

:D

Woohoo … metal allergies of the world unite! We should form a club. Yours sounds worse than mine. My skin turns this lovely shade of black which I have to try and scrub off, but it doesn’t really do any damage other than cosmetic. The damage is usually done when I remoe several skin layers trying to scrub off the black marks.

So tell me (don’t know if you are married), but if you were/are would you wear a wedding band given your allergy?

Well I certainly hope so :) My fiance (sounds weird saying that) picked it herself, so I know she likes it!

Corollary to above …. Would your feelings regarding wearing a ring differ if you were female? Guys with wedding bands is still somewhat optional, whereas it seems almost compulsory for women.

Ooops you’re right … slipped up there. MUST …. REMAIN … STRONG … RESIST … MATRIMONIAL … VIRUS. Maldur please support me through this temporary insanity. Of course living 17,000km away from Atticus I think I’m fairly safe at the moment. :)

For me at least, I don't think I would wear it. I wouldn't suffer any harm if I did, but I wouldn't want the ring damaged in my case.
