Yeah my combats went stale too. I'm taking a break from DMing and playing at the moment, hopefully I'll be nice and fresh whe i return to it in a few weeks.

I *may* be getting to play again soon. I'll be playing a tiefling paladin modeled after the green knight. I strive to protect a world that hates and fears me. :D

I am goingto try and talk my players into going with a *stunt die* system, where they may describe some extraordinary action and attempt to liven up combat. I'll reward their efforts with abonus d6 to the roll.

The last combat went pretty well. It was huge swashbuckling recue right from under the executioners axe. It involved the 4 characters, their thieves guild allies, a bunch of innocent bysteanders, 2 units of mounted watchmen (8 total), 8 riflemen, the executioner, the evil wizard and his bodygaurds, and a steamjack. It got really messy. :D

I would do this follow up tyhing at each round, describing everyones actions in brief, and how they affected one another. It worked pretty well.

For Epic campaigns I've always liked Fate Points. The more you have, the more well known you are.

If you find yourself getting more and more fate points more quickly then normal...it means something big is coming up.

Fate can be spent to auto-succeed. Get a reroll. Or do something ludicrous. However, Fate and be spent to cancel Fate...and guess what, the bad guy has more fate points than any one party member.

Even without using that system, this sums up my games perfectly. :D

This is a d20 mod? What is the exact system?

It's just a house rule that I only use in epic campaigns. My players always know my epic games, because someone will do something impressive...and I'll say, write down a fate point current, and fate point total column.

Hey, EK. I have posted TWICE to your boards tonight! I'm currently reading the war thread. I should have gotten in on that one from the beginning.

I have yet to run an Epic game, though I try to bring that epic feel to all my games. :D Myforte is in the roleplay, and plots. Combat has always been a weak point with me. I tend to be to dry in my combats. Tactically I am fine, and those encounters where I spend time to utilize terrain and tactics are always memorable.
