This is going to be a negative post for the most part, so I want to write first that I did not buy Frostburn because all my arctic needs were already filled by F&F. I do like the book as a whole. But:

Uh, so it is an index without page numbers? I don't mind that it is an index (since the one in the book is hideous- all monsters are under A(nimals)), but page numbers would have made it a bit more useful. In fact the current index does break down all the information in the supplement already now that I look at it.

So why write this?

Valid question. It's not meant to be an index at all.

To be more specific, when I wrote Frost & Fur, I wrote it as a series of cultures. I did not write the book as "Chapter 1: Monsters, Chapter 2: Equipment," etc. Ironically, a lot of folks have indicated that they would have preferred the book to be grouped the way I originally wrote it. I don't disagree with the original decision (if you divide all the chapters up by culture, you could probably publish four separate books) but wanted to let consumers who bought the book know where equipment, monsters, spells, etc. fit into what culture. It's not always clear in Frost and Fur in its current state.

That said, I didn't realize this was going to be published as is. I agree, assigning page numbers would be a good idea. I don't have the time to do that myself, but it may be worth asking HMP for it they're so inclined.
