I'll be getting it and cannibalising it for parts largely because it's being written by competent adventure authors and not the guys who gave us Keep on the Shadowfell and Pyramid of Shadows.

Sadly, how heavily it ties into the Forgotten Realms makes it unlikely for me.

Hehe... the fact that I am a Realms fan means I am not interested in it because Tiamat doesn't fit my vision of the Realms. I consider her part of the 2E-era pastiche.

I'll be seeing how Hoard begins and where the plot takes it across the Realms. As I've never been a Realms player nor run anything there before, I've been enjoying learning about Daggerford and its environs from the Dragonspear Castle and Scourge of the Sword Coast modules. So my first 5E campaign I'm currently thinking I might set there and use/intersperse the module/set pieces from both of these adventures (plus Dead In Thay when I get that). If Hoard also fits in here, I might try and incorporate events in that adventure into it too.

Of course... for all I know Hoard of the Dragon Queen might be so good and have so much stuff to do that it can run fine on its own without bothering to incorporate anything from GoDsC or SotSC. And if that's the case, then so much the better.

I like running the first official adventure for each edition. Having the shared experiences of knowing who Meepo is or how bad Keep on the Shadowfell was is fun.

I'll be quicker to bail on the adventure if it is bad this time around, though. I don't expect it to be.

Thaumaturge.

Pretty much only run my own adventures now, so I suspect not. I'm particularly disinterested in ones that are setting specific and connected to a big metaplot, not because those suck (they don't), but because they sort of lock on in to pursuing that metaplot or, if you ignore it, seem really random!

Not likely, just because I don't run published stuff much these days. It may become part of a Frankenstein's monster campaign in the future.

...as in, a campaign with different pieces of published and homebrew stuff mixed together, not a campaign about flesh golems. :)

Interesting results so far. 48 replies and over half of them are definitely or probably going to play or run the adventure. No one has categorically ruled it out yet.

I think I will buy and play it with my group. My only concern is about the lack of an updated FR:CS to use to expand HotDQ. I think I'll wait the CS before mastering the adventure.

With that in mind, how many of you are planning on running or playing the Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure?

Realistically, it's unlikely. Nothing to do with the material itself, though, it's just that I have a great many adventures for various editions and have run very few of them. (Plus, my experience with published adventures has been that they don't fit our session arrangements very well - we play for 3 hours once every 2 weeks, where it seems published adventures work better with longer, and probably more frequent, sessions.)

I haven’t included it in the poll, but does the fact that Kobold Press are writing the adventure (instead of WotC keeping it in-house) have a positive, negative or no impact on your decision?

I consider it a positive, as my experience with recent WotC adventures has been very poor indeed. (But bear in mind that my recent experience only goes as far as "King of the Trollhaunt Warrens", the 4e "Tomb of Horrors" hardback, and "The Sceptre Tower of Spellgard". I've heard good things about adventures since then, but haven't read or played any.)

All that said, I'm only cautiously optimistic here. Because although Wolfgang Baur is an experienced adventure writer and has done good work in the past, there's also "Expedition to the Demonweb Pits"...

Unless I convert it to Pathfinder or Savage Worlds, I won't be playing it. I'd also port it out of the Realms to another setting.
