D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen question. (spoilers)

The issue is not that PCs can die, the issue is that the module designers were totally silent on it....
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on whether this is a bug or a feature.

When I took over, I basically used the adventure sites as location pieces. I changed practically everything else (I kept the cult, but drastically changed how the PCs interacted with them) and threw in a bunch more stuff (i.e. other places to adventures and other NPCs/monsters to meet). It's all good.
Amend my previous comment to "I'm glad you found a way to make it work for your group," then.

Also, to answer my own question about the map, with a little digging, I found this:

I'd even bought that map pack, but hadn't studied it in detail yet. It shows the crashed castle at...could that be Oyaviggoton??

I can easily come up with a resolution, I've been running games for a long time, I was just wondering if I missed something blatant. As mentioned it says that the result of the castle crashing will be covered in RoT but it omits that section in RoT. I ran this as a test campaign to learn 5e and its done its job despite being a horrible module, the plot is OK but the execution is mediocre at best and the writing suffers badly from being rushed. RoT will be skipped and I'm moving on to a new Underdark orientated campaign.
