Hollywood just doesn't get it

A good example would be The Passion of the Christ. That movie was far better than its average review, primarily because most of the critics were biased negatively against the movie. The Passion was the best movie released last year.

!!!! 8O!!!!

i thought it was atrocious! seriously, if i had forgetten for a moment it had ties with Christ's story, i would have thought i was watching a smuff movie!
no offence, but i rate it as the worst film i have ever seen (and that speaks volume, given the amount of crap i use to come across!)

I really don't care if I'm "correct" at all. I can certainly state my opinion, and I did.
Well, you WERE misunderstood, so presumably, regardless of your correctness, there was some ambiguity in your sentence. You didn't mention that you were relating an anecdote -- it certainly seems from your post that you're saying more people in the world like musicals. If what you meant to say was "More of my friends and relations like musicals" then, well, I don't think you should be surprised that you were misunderstood.

And if you DON'T CARE about the correctness of your opinions, why are you even posting them? Surely the whole point of conversation is to share one's ideas and see which ones are right and which are wrong, or at least what other people have to say about them.

But whatever floats your boat.

If someone is stating their opinion, they have a right to do so. If it's an opinion, not fact, and they don't post facts to back it up, it's not "wrong," as you were saying. I disagree with you, you disagree with me. Drop it, please.

If I ever made you believe you don't have a right to state your opinion, I apologize. I intended no such thing.

But I believe you are fundamentally misinformed on the nature of opinions. Opinions are indeed correct or incorrect. If I hold the opinion that I can survive for an hour without oxygen, well, it's pretty easy to prove if I'm right or wrong. Conversation is one means by which we can test our opinions to see if they are correct or not, by exposing them to other brains and seeing what exceptions or failures can be devised for them. FACTS cannot be incorrect (because if it's not true then it's of course not a fact), but one of the most important qualities of an opinion is its veracity.

I'm not trying to harangue you or hurt your feelings. I don't think you're a bad person -- I just think that the statement "More people like musicals" is an insupportable one.

And I'm fascinated by how you claim you don't want to take part in a discussion, and yet you are posting on a discussion board.
