IIRC, that spell can be cast several times, and every time, you can get more fragments. So this is, essentially, the invulnerability spell for liches: He takes a couple of years, casting that spell every day, and BAM: Every grain of sand in the Great Desert of Insertnamehere is his phylactery.

That d20 was much later. I was the one suggesting to various gods to create avatars and play around with mortals, pretending they were mortals, too. Back then, roleplaying was much more sexual than today. Hence all those half-deities. I think when the gods saw this, they put it in the minds of most people that sex should not be discussed in roleplaying games. Can you imagine how much you maintenance you have to pay when you're omnipotent?
