D&D (2024) Homebrew and the Origins playtest, how does it affect your rules?

I tell my players that a die roll doesn't count unless I call for it.
I mean, if telling the player what they can roll iswhat Mattercer does, and it is, that's what a lot of people are going to know of the game. The declare a skill and throw the dice is a 3E behavior, not a 5E one, from what I've seen.

The real answer is of course, I will wait and see, but in the interest of playing along...

They are trying to address two problems I have, which are closely connected. The human race (not us, just the D&D one) and feats. I limit and don't love feats, and I know the default human is underpowered. If feats are fixed, and so far it looks promising, then a two feat human is fine!

That could be a couple of house rules I could take out. I have another on short rests...so curious to see what happens there.

On the other hand, if crits staid as in this playtest, then that is house rule number 1, but I think they will back off. And inspiration, not sure, just can't make the call yet.
