D&D 5E Homebrew Marshal Class (+Thread)

Okay, big update. Gonna be working late tonight, and working all weekend, so I wanted to throw all this out there today.

Nothing is set in stone, but the black text stuff is stuff that I think it very much on the right track, while orange is either still monk stuff, or stuff I'm basically proposing for the first time. Please read the whole OP again and give it a think before commenting.

There's no non-optional 5e feature to make long rests an hour long. There's a reason for that.
There're no non-optional 5e features. ;)
OK, seriously, though, there are optional ones? By definition, it don't get much more optional than crowd-sourced homebrew.

Something giving only some long-rest benefits might be a better idea, though. Like eliminating a level of exhaustion, restoring some fraction of HD, or/and recharging 1 use of one long-rest recharge feature? But not, poof all your slots & rages and whatnot are back.

This seems like an eminently workable compromise. I like it a lot.

Apparently I am dense... there is a magical one so what is the reason for exclusion of the non-magical one? Make it explicit for me please. Cause right now its non-mages cannot do cool things is winning out.

It might be interesting because exhaustion mitigation does it exist?

I know there are notoriously three privileged-rest spells, but an accelerated-rest spell doesn't leap to mind.

Greater Restoration, though it can do a lot of other things, instead.

The 5e one I seen may have only been a spend 5 minutes and get a short rest now that I think about it.
Short rests seem too long, anyway. ;) And, if it's a long-rest resource that enables it...

I don't think the core class needs to interact with spellcasting directly outside of cantrips and possibly full action granting, should that end up a feature. If you mean in synergistic way I'd agree, but not for actual direct support. Casters don't need it.
I disagree, but I’m fine with keeping it to gambits for the base class, if needed. I just need the class to be narrative first, and narratively I see no reason not to have options in the base class that synergies with Spellcasting characters.

x/day, you add the following benefits to a short rest.

could work.

also, the outlaw should make hidden camps.

And I want to give all Marshals tool profs, and the ability to train ppl in tools and languages faster.

We've already discussed cantips working the same as granted attacks, and granting full actions would also allow a second spell. All the initiative and defensive buffs will also help casters as much as any other characters. What other specific spellcasting buffs were you looking at? Personally, I think we have them covered as is.
