Honeymarsh Academy (D&D3.5) Chapter 2

Arvin makes his way silently down the pathway to the north.

The sounds of music continue.

He sneaks down the passage some 80' and the music gets louder the closer he gets. Finally, he reaches a shallow set of steps leading down- and observes a smallish cave at the very end of the corridor, set up as a furnished cozy homey-looking cave. The floor is covered with furs and the walls are decorated with tapestries- probably muffling some of the sound. An angular, human-sized woman is bent over a cauldron, which is itself bubbling over a fire.

The music is coming from a clockwork device in the corner- a wooden box with a horn-shaped tube coming out of the top. It looks in every way like an antique gramophone, but instead of discs, it seems to be playing a revolving greenish-blue egg-shaped crystal that is set in a brass holder, and slowly rotating. She doesn't notice Arvin and continues stirring the cauldron.

Arvin freezes as he notes a black cat snoozing by the fire. It's ears perk up and it yowls at the darkness where Arvin is hiding.

What next? The cat seems likely to want to get up and investigate.

Bahuma casts Inertial Armor on himself, surronding himself with a bluish glow.

"For the battles ahead..." the half-giant says.

Arvin winces at the sight of the cat.
This could be a problem. He thinks to himself.
Locking eyes with the cat, Arvin makes silent, soothing gestures to calm the high-strung animal.

OOC: Using Wild Empathy to convince the cat I'm not worth paying attention to. (3+1 Cha mod) + 1d20
If I that's not possible, then I will charge the woman and attempt a grapple, while screaming for backup.
Touch attack +10, Grapple +10

(The cat hasn't seen you yet, Arvin, it only made its listen check.. I'm just trying to figure out if you'd rather hide, retreat or what...before it gets up and comes looking for you.)

Bahuma- I noted that your intertia armor is up.

The rest of the group is some 80' back.

OOC: Ah ... in that case, I will quickly fall back to the rest of the party (+10 Hide, +10 MS) while keeping an eye open in case the cat follows me.

When Arvin returns to tell us what he saw...

Seeker thinks for a moment and says. "It's likely really bad tactics, but she's only one woman and a cat. Why don't I go in and try and talk it over with her? If she gets nasty you're all right behind me."

"Er, we're only looking for the helm or, failing that, the two ringleaders of the theft. Correct?"

Bartlin: Queens Knight 6

Bart is mounted at this time. Lance at the ready to fly in and charge the hag. "Remember. She may be a spell caster. Someone should be ready to strike to disrupt her castings."

"I'm somewhat resistant to magic, so I'm not too worried about her. But if you feel my idea's w/out merit then we might as well just rush her."

"What are we going to offer her in return? Obviously due to the views of certain people we are not going to let her go. What is left? It's a good idea Seeker, but as I see it we just do not have the bargaining chips to pull it off."
