Hop like a dagger, Sting like a shortsword

Arms & Armour 3.5 (Bastion) has the weapon property Forceful wich increase the damage die one step.
And it can be taken up to three times so a +1 Dagger with 3 Forcefuls would be dealing 1d10 damage.

Is that a magic enhancement for the weapon? and if so what is the enhancement bonus? I'd like to check it out, thanks.

I'd assume +1, but even at +1 its pretty weak... 1d4 -> 1d6 = +1 damage, on average.. same with 1d6 -> 1d8. So why not just get the extra +1 as a flat enhancement bonus so that you get a bonus to hit as well as damage ?

Whether it's weak or not depends on the original damage.

1d8(4.5) -> 2d6(7) = 2.5 damage gained.

2d6(7) -> 3d6(10.5) = 3.5 damage gained

And if you put it on a greatsword three times,

2d6(7) -> 6d6 (21)

So a +1, Forceful (x3) Greatsword does an average of 22 damage.

A +4 Greatsword (power attacking for three to take advantage of the higher bonus to hit) does an average of 17 damage.

Each choice has it's advantages but it's a decent option for some weapons.

Agreed that it's pretty bad for daggers.

Arcana Unearthed has the "Dire" template for weapons which gives +2 damage and increases weight.

Yeah if you're allowed to pull in feats and whatnot from any and all sources you can get pretty downright obscene.

You are better off throwing Flaming, Shock, or Frost on a dagger. For the same +3 enhancement, you do 1d4 + 3d6 (13) vs. 1d10 (5.5). Although, as boolean points out, a triple forceful greatsword is pretty cool. :)

These don't give a full die of damage, but it could help.

The OGL sources Iron Kingdoms had a weapons mod called serrated. Gave a extra +1 damage per strike, and the enhancement was not magical.

2nd World Simulations had a book on weapons masters. I believe it had a feat that gave the increase your looking for under, of all things, the dagger master.

arms and Armor (3.0) had nonmagical enhancement called jagged. It added an aditional 1d6 to damage, but reduced the hardness of the weapon. It also negated the use of other enhancements, such as keen or serrated weapons.

I wholeheartedly agree with that assessment. 1d4 average: 2.5... 1d6 average: 3.5... difference ? 1 point of damage. 1d8 average: 4.5... so in effect, a +2 dagger does the same damage as a longsword, and has a +2 to hit to boost.

Would you pay 8000 g.p. for a dagger that does the same damage as a longsword and has +2 to hit ?

I thought you would too.

The proper progression for the greatsword would be one of the below:
2d6>2d8>2d10>2d12 (13)
2d6>2d8>4d6>4d8 (18)

Ignore the above if you're talking about 3.5.

It would be just like WotC to take the only thing in the game that wasn't broken and break that too. (Just look at M:tG).

Actually thats not entirely true. According to A&A 3.5 atleast. They have a chart for increases that looks like this.

1d3->1d4->1d6->2d4 OR 1d8->1d10->2d6 OR 1d12->2d8->2d10 OR 1d20->3d10->2d20

Wich makes our +1, Forceful (x3) Greatsword deal 3d10+1 or 17.5 damage.

Not very good. but quite a bit of fun :D
