Horzon Walker's Planar Terrain Mastery Alternative

Corwin of Amber

First Post
I rather like the Planar Terrain Mastery: Shifting ability, but the rest of the class isn't exactly what I like to play. Aside from magic items (anklet of translocation, etc) are there other classes that have a similar ability?

I would like to stay away from too much magic/psionics, since I would like to break away from my pattern of playing casters. ToB is fine, but I've already played a Shadow Hand based Swordsage, and want to try something different.

I would apreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Most consider HW a 1 (for Fatigue Immunity) or 6 (just enough for the DimDoor) level class only. Considering it takes a while to enter, you probably wouldn't be able to go much higher than HW 6 in many games anyway.

If you want a crazy teleportation build, there's some sort of Tefflammer (spelling?) Shadowlord in one of the splatbooks. It has some stupid ability to full attack after a teleport, which lead to some charop "shadowpounce" or "pouncelord" builds to teleport 3 times/round and hilarity ensues. Hilarity being the DM ban hammer, that is.

AFAIK Horizon Walker 6 gives +4 to a few skills, immunity to fatigue and Teleport. So I'm in agreement there.

The problem with Telflammar Shadowlord is that you need the ability to teleport as a prerequisite. Although I do apreciate the suggestion.

If you're open to having a little spellcasting, consider the Elocator psionic prestige class. You need 1 manifester level to get in, and it gives 2/3 manifesting progression, so if you dump it at level 6 (when you get free access to teleport as a level 3 power) you'll only have 5 manifester levels.

Take your one level in Nomad for access to dimension swap and teleport trigger.

This is pretty good, I could pair this with War Mind as the 1st manifester level to keep me mor martially inclined.

You could do that, though the need for a high Knowledge skill means you'll need to deviate from your martial inclinations... to say nothing of the power point requirement. That's going to eat a feat, and you need 3 other feats to get into Elocator. The major benefit of War Mind is the full BAB (which you won't get); in trade, you'll suffer reduced power points compared to a guy with one level of Psion, way fewer powers known, and a less flexible power list.

War Mind is a very cool PrC, but it's not a good replacement for Psion if all you get is the manifesting progression.

Also, of course, when I look at Elocator, what I see is a mobile skill monkey. IMHO you might want to build a kick-butt skirmish dude (with Scout as your main class). High Dex + Int, one level of Psion (probably Nomad but also good is Seer), then Elocator and finish off with either more Scout levels or a Scout PrC.

Ok, this is a really cool idea, I may try it at some point.

The problem is, what I want to try is a BFC character that uses teleportation to set up flanking and Thicket of Blades/Stand Still. I probobly should have mentioned that beforehand.

BFC?

Sounds like you'd be better with Warlock and that Glaive invocation (which gives you a melee touch attack with reach and is generally awesome for AoOs).

Why do you need to Teleport rather than just Tumbling in?
