Hostile Empathic Transfer - too powerful?

Probably the main downside with the power is that it doesn't play nice with Vigor. If you have gobs of temp HP from Vigor, then you need to wait longer before using HET.

Actually, I can see it working real well with Vigor in some very common situations.

1) Psion does not yet have Vigor up and takes 40 points of damage and has 5 left.
2) He then Vigors himself for 50 points just to make sure he does not fall over on the next attack.
3) Next round, it uses ETH to gain back his 40 damaged points. Now, he has his full hit points plus any temporary points that he still has left over from Vigor.

If you consider ETH to be a healing power as opposed to a damaging power, then it works great with Vigor since you are primarily using it to heal and would only use it when damaged. Since the idea is to not get damaged at all, Vigor does a good job of keeping a Psion alive, but it has to be in place to do its job. ETH is a power to be used when Vigor fails (e.g. the opponents blew through your Vigor temp hp or you never got Vigor up in the first place).

There are a lot of powers which can damage an opponent. ETH is not really needed for that. There are only a few which can heal. That's the true strength of ETH.

It's touch range, will half, you have to have taken the damage you're transfering yourself first, and you're a d4 HD class.

Nah, I'd say it's just fine.

As for being too powerful for a 3rd level power because it can tranfer up to 50 points of damage - *shrug* an unaugmented fireball or lightning bolt can do up to 60, and to multiple people.

The way I see it, the psion doesn't get into melee with 50 damage on him to use this power. He has 50 damage because someone got into melee with him! And now that someone needs to be taken care of quickly, or the psion needs to protect himself.

Right. And if target makes its save the Psion is reasonably likely to be killed outright as karma for his gamble gone bad. "Merely" 25+ hit points down and standing next to someone who is about to unload a full iterative attack is bad news, and it only gets worse as we scale up to higher levels.

This is a risky power to use. There are ways of alleviating that risk with good teamwork, but that is a proper reward for good teamwork.

I do not see this in the EPH errata. Where is this errata? Do you have a link?

For some annoying reason they didn't put the errata on the website. I got flamed for daring to agree with some of the errata on the WotC site, too.

I'm of the opinion that HET isn't "conservative" enough to be in the XPH. It should have been in Complete Psi.

The EPH errata is on the website. I think Egres is suggesting that Complete Psionics is new errata for the EPH, which is complete bollocks. :)
