House Rules Suck

And once again, thanks for playing!

Ah, I see... You trolls are so purposely offensive, and all for your personal amusement and gratification, as you stroke your little egos at our expense. You're all such master-debaters. (Pun intended.)

Well, I said from the beginning that I knew this post was a troll, but that there were some valid points being brought up that were worth some serious debate. So, I thought you were being serious... but now I know that anytime I see anything written by you, in the future, I can simply scroll past it, because it's more than likely just drivel from yet another troll, stroking himself.

Wait, don't go yet.
So, now you want to try to infer that I cannot speak or understand the english language by splitting hairs.
The definition, scientific, of "not-typical" is "abnormal", also known as Abby, Abby Normal, I think.

As for how hard it is to read the PHB, it is not Grob's Electronics, it's a Player's Handbook, a book so easy to read and understand, my 9 year old daughter understands the mechanics behind the game, and plays very well.
Not tough reading, now is it?

See, that quote you gave, there are no links, and I doubt the validity of that study. We these "adult Americans" who could not read English natives of America? Were they immigrants to whom English is a difficult second language?

Is the house-rules debate so sticky, that it must be derailed in accusations of abnormality, atypical, literacy and whether or not dictionary.com is a valid resource?

Personally, I had a lot of house rules, printed out. These also contained guidelines on how I expected people to behave.
Rule Excerpt--"No racial jokes or slurs allowed, be a racist bigot on your own time."
"If you wake up the kids, YOUR watching the teletubbies with them, not me!"
"If you badmouth Heather, I hope you brought your coat, it's cold during the TX winter nights."
"Physical threats, intimidation or assault will get you booted."
"Bring your own dice and smokes, don't leech off of me."

That's generally why I throw in a few morsles when a troll shows himself... When you see 4-5 scrambling for the same chunk of meat, you can ID them much easier.;)

Consequently, I agree that a wide array of people do play D&D.:D

However, I've found that the games I've actually enjoyed have been a tad more... "selective".:p

Feeling a bit... touchy are we Azlan? I honestly responded seriously to you. Then you went off on this grand revisionist history thing of obvious backpeddling and defensiveness. It seems from looking at the thread you in fact did not notice the original post was a troll until you editted your second post. I was really trying to discuss the side issue of you dubbing the original D&D rules a "hodgpodge" and "rat's nest". Well, can't win them all and as far as ignoring my future posts, more power too ya. I hope I didn't touch a nerve there and I look forward to an intelligent debate sometime without the rewrites and hair-splitting. I'm not trying to be touchy feely here, I'm being sincere. Best of luck to you in the future and stay warm, there's a touch of a chill in the air.

For those of you who have trouble with synonyms and hairs being split I'll illustrate with the aid of www.dictionary.com

Synonyms rarely exist, and when they do they're mistakes. Generative grammar trumps www.ifit'sinprintitmustbetrue.com.

Besides, we know according to the Gricean paradigm of intention in speaker's meaning (now Searle's) that the meaning contents of words are mostly the contents of the speaker's intentions for those words, unless you're Humpty Dumpty'ing.

Nor does quoting a horse's arse of a playwright do anything but highlight your own vanity and arrogance.

Really, who is more the troll. The troll, or the troll who follows him?

Personally, I rather like the idea that a troll apparently means we all get to fling crap at each other. You say bring it on? I say it's already been broughten! :D

No, no! This is an internet troll. You must be very careful! Internet trolls actually regenerate when hit with flames or acid!

Is he being sincere? Or is he merely being a troll again? Who knows? Who cares? Once a troll, always a troll, I say. And I, for one, have no respect for them...

Ain't that the truth! Why are they called trolls, anyway? What odious, slinky monster lurks in dark places, yet thrives on heat and fire? What mischievous (if not outright malicious) being likes to trick people and stir up trouble in a community, just so it can sit back and feed off the commotion and negative energy, chuckling all the while? Sounds like something out of a Steven King novel... but is there anything like that in D&D?
