Wait, don't go yet.
So, now you want to try to infer that I cannot speak or understand the english language by splitting hairs.
The definition, scientific, of "not-typical" is "abnormal", also known as Abby, Abby Normal, I think.
As for how hard it is to read the PHB, it is not Grob's Electronics, it's a Player's Handbook, a book so easy to read and understand, my 9 year old daughter understands the mechanics behind the game, and plays very well.
Not tough reading, now is it?
See, that quote you gave, there are no links, and I doubt the validity of that study. We these "adult Americans" who could not read English natives of America? Were they immigrants to whom English is a difficult second language?
Is the house-rules debate so sticky, that it must be derailed in accusations of abnormality, atypical, literacy and whether or not dictionary.com is a valid resource?
Personally, I had a lot of house rules, printed out. These also contained guidelines on how I expected people to behave.
Rule Excerpt--"No racial jokes or slurs allowed, be a racist bigot on your own time."
"If you wake up the kids, YOUR watching the teletubbies with them, not me!"
"If you badmouth Heather, I hope you brought your coat, it's cold during the TX winter nights."
"Physical threats, intimidation or assault will get you booted."
"Bring your own dice and smokes, don't leech off of me."
